TITLE: Diaspora

Andrew Jimenez is a young, fourteen-year-old Filipino. His parents strive to make ends

meet, as he struggles with being the breadwinner of his seven siblings. Andrew’s mother gets a

job opportunity to work as an OFW in Hong Kong, a place that she has always wanted to go to.

“There are a lot of Filipinos there too nak, and they pay a lot for house maids compared to here

in the Philippines.” Perhaps, things will go better for the family.

But when poverty, bullying, and even death show up to the Jimenez family with no sign

of contact from his mother, Andrew is forced to do the unthinkable – find a way to go to Hong

Kong to find his missing mom.

Coming out from the comfort of your own home and making it into the real, dirty world

can be frightening. When he sees things that he’s never seen before – child prostitution, illegal

gambling and the like, Andrew finds that things are not quite as they seem in Hong Kong as his

mother vividly described.

TITLE: Under the Worksheets

Mikayla is on the verge of giving up on love. Toxic boyfriend after toxic boyfriend, lies,

cheating –are these all that love truly has to offer? She has had enough. The only thing she could

find comfort in is her mom, who has experienced the same things as her.

But when a man changes her life, she can’t help but fall in love. Kind, sweet, and good-

looking. Intelligent to match. Everything seems perfect about Devan. It doesn’t make sense that
everyone around her hates him; after all, he’s just Mikayla’s Physics professor, fifteen years

older than her. What’s the worst that can happen?

One night, Devan finally invites Mikayla to his home. Excited, Mikayla goes to the mall

to buy some clothes to wear. But amidst the excitement, Mikayla’s whole life falls apart when

she sees Devan in the department store, making out with none other than her own mother. What

will happen to Mikayla’s relationship with Devan and her mom?

Synopsis #3
TITLE: Channel 64

Anthony, a middle-aged accountant, finds his life uneventful. Day in, day out at the office, filing

up papers and taxes – only one thing keeps him sane; coming home from work, watching the

television and its 63 channels. Every channel had a new story to tell, and it brightened up his dull

and colorless life.

One lonely Saturday, he boots up his television before seeing a new channel that has never been

there before; channel 64. Interested, he turns the TV to the new channel, only to find disturbing

footage of a man being brutally murdered. Horrified, he turns the TV off before realizing that the

man had a striking resemblance to Anthony.

The next day, he checks the channel to find it gone. It was missing, without a single trace—every

day since he checked his television before seeing the channel again next Saturday. Detailed and

gruesome murders are captured on the screen – a bloody arm mutilated, dangling on a torched

man’s dilapidated body; knife carvings all around a woman’s gut-splattered chest, spelling out

the name “ANTHONY”. For what felt like thousands of sleepless nights, Anthony knew that his

deteriorating mental state will kill him faster than the people behind this ghastly scheme will.

He flips through the channels to see more information, before he catches glimpses in the news of

numerous cases of missing people, all with similar features to him and his family. Certain he has

had enough; he then commits his entire life to find out the source of the channel and gather more

information on the grueling topic. But maybe, he was better off not knowing.
