[ IC-400PRO Back to Back Mini repeater application ]

Please read whole pages carefully before you proceed for the work.
Mini repeater can be made by connecting two IC-400Pro(IC-F210) back to back using Optional
OPC-617 cables and Combine cable (Not prepared by Icom)
This modification applies only to IC-400Pro and IC-F210, and does not apply to IC-F210S
and other radios.

Adaptor cable
Required materials

1. IC-400Pro (transceiver) x2
2. OPC-617 (optional cable) x2
3. Adaptor cable (2x 9Pin D-sub Male connectors)
4. Resistors 10k ohms, 1.8k ohms.
(Programming software CS-400pro#11 and programming cable OPC1122 are required to
complete the job)

Adaptor cable assembling

To connect two radios via OPC-617 cables, prepare adaptor cable made with two male 9 pin
D-sub connectors.

Radio modification

There are three things to be done with the radio's hardware.

1. Level adjustment of the RX audio to suit the input of the TX modulator.
2. Inclusion of LPF to cut out the CTCSS tone from repeating.
3. Enabling the TX audio pass from option socket to TX modulator circuit.

1 and 2 are to be done to RX radio and 3 is to be done to TX radio.

It is good idea you do them all for both RX and TX radios for future convenience, in case you
may need to swap over these radios.
Mod 1 and 2 :
Connect C288 and the joints of C179 and C359 via 10k ohm resistor.
Ground that 10k ohms (at C288 side) via 1.8k ohm resistor.
Remove R225.
See detailed location in next page.

Remove R225 and connect wire to C288 from 10k ohm resister.
Connect wire from 10k ohm resister to the joints of C179, C359

Mod 3 :
Make a soldering bridge at Link "F"

Radio programming
Using programming software you need to do…………
1. Program Transmit and Receive frequencies and CTCSS tones, etc.
2. Enable a switch which goes to ground when signal is received. (RX EXO)
This enable the PTT on the transimtter radio when signal is received at RX radio.
3. Enable a PTT from option socket. (EPTT) (As a default, external PTT is inhibited)
4. Repeater tail adjustment. (RX EXO delay time)

See next page for these parameters,

Prgoram Transmit frequency , CTCSS tone and power setting in Transmitter radio.
You can erase unwanted channels by highlighting the channels and pressing Del button.
Program the Receiver for RX channel in same way. Put freq.
CTCSS Power setting

Set "RX EXO" to ON

Set "Repeater tail time" in

this field.

Enable External PTT by setting

this field to "EPTT"

Performance check and adjustment

Check the repeater performance by injecting 1kHz single tone with variable deviations
and see the output deviation varies linearly acording to the input.
If the output deviation exceeds too much or not sufficient, adjust the 1.8k ohm
resister by replacing it to similar value with some variation.

**** Note **** !! READ HERE !!

The volume control will not control the output deviation but when it is set to minimum,
the AF pass will be cut and will not repeat the audio to the transmitter.
This happens because the Mute switch in the AF pass will be activated when VOL is set to MI
Please adjust the volume control until the audio is repeated. You can disconnect the speaker
by pulling off the speaker connector from the main board if you need to do so.

In case the operator uses the repeater as a despatch radio and cutting the repeating audio by
setting the volume control to minimum is not acceptable, please take the audio line from other
point on the main board (Please see next page for details).

<Taking the AF from other point>

Instead of taking the RX AF from the joints of C179 and C359 which is located top
side of the main board, you need to take it from the bottom side of the main board,
Connect C288 and C185 via 10k ohm resister and ground it via 10k ohm resister as
shown in the picture below.

Use the joint of C185 and R117 as AF output point.
