Introduction:

The sustainability of utilizing banana peels into a fertilizer has a great impact to our
environment it seems that many people are excited to find out that they can use banana
peels as fertilizer. According to Heather Rhoades (2020), using banana peels in
compost is a great way to add both organic material and some very important nutrients
to your compost mix such as learning how to compost banana peels is easy, a need of
few things to be aware of when putting banana in compost. In addition, composting
banana peels is as easy as simply tossing your leftover banana peels into the compost,
but be aware that they may take longer to compost in a whole. It has ways that can
speed up the composting process by cutting up the banana peels into smaller pieces.

There are wonders that a banana peels can be used as a direct fertilizer. One example
is burying the banana peels in the soil under a plant can slow down the process that
breaks down the peels and makes their nutrients available to the plant. This process
needs air to happen, and buried banana peels will break down much more slowly than
ones that are placed in a properly maintained compost pile that is turned and aerated on
a regular basis.

In other way, bananas are rich in minerals including potassium, phosphorus, calcium,
and others. Potassium is the most important element that is used as fertilizer. It is
essential for promoting general plant vigor, build up, and resistance to pest and disease
necessary to help fruit grow; involved in regulating around 50 enzymes in a plant; and
literally hang onto tree trunk sin nature and vertical vegetables (DIY Fertilizers2012).
Haider et.al, (2013-2014) explains the signs of potassium deficiency in plants can be
seen as the older leaves have brown veins. Potassium content in banana peels is about
200 mg of the fruits or 40%. Using banana peels in the garden provides nutrients that
plants need to thrive, and it acts also as a pest repellent. To sum it up, Sharif Hossain
(2015) stated that with increasing environmental awareness and growing importance of
unfriendly agricultural wastes, crops and fruit waste can be used for efficient conversion
into biomaterials like bio-plastic, bio-polymer, bio-fiber, and bio-fuels.

Significance of the study:

This study would be most useful and significant to the following beneficiary:

Household: Plant owners may use this for its benefits i.e., soil will become
healthy, plants will grow drastically, stress reliever, promotes comfort, relaxation, and
natural feelings when they see their flowers bloom. They can refer this to their co-
plantitas and plantitos.

Farmers: This study can contribute to the agricultural industries. The Farmers
may adapt the study by using the banana peels for growing their crops. Banana peels
may also be used as an insect repellent for aphids like; green flies, black flies and white
flies.

Business owners: May apply the research on their future businesses. They can
generate a product using the fertilizer and aside from earning profit, they can also help
people by providing more job opportunities to alleviate unemployment.

Schools: This research can broaden their knowledge not only for the guardians
of the students, but for the teachers as well. The users of the fertilizer can utilized the
benefits and help to propagate good soil that nourishes the plant growth of the campus.

Future researchers: The research maybe presented and used as a

reference and can provide co-reference data in conducting new researches. This
may lead them in examining the validity and reliability of the study.

Statement of the problem:

This study aims to determine the efficacy of banana peel as an alternative fertilizer:

1. What is the level of efficacy of banana peel as an alternative fertilizer

1.1 height
1.2 number of leaves
1.3 growth rate
2. what is the level of efficacy of banana peel fertilizer compared to organic fertilizer

3. How efficient to use banana peel as an alternative fertilizer for plants

Hypothesis:

The hypothesis is formulated to the following level of efficacy:

Musa acuminata “Cavendish” has the highest efficiency as fertilizer

Musa acuminata “Colla” has medium efficiency as fertilizer

Musa acuminata “Lady Finger” has the lowest efficiency as fertilizer

All type of bananas is not efficient as fertilizer

Conceptual framework:

Research paradigm

banana peel cutting
1.2number of leaves
Tap water soaking
1.3growth rate

inorganic fertilizer

The diagram is showing the relationship of the variables in the study will based on the
concept that banana peel is a potential ingredient in formulating organic fertilizer as it is
scientifically proven in many studies. Banana peel will help to add calcium, lignin,
tannins and minerals in varying amounts. Banana peel will help add calcium,
magnesium, sulfur, phosphates, potassium and sodium, all of which are important to the
healthy growth of both flowering and fruiting plants. Bananas peel also helps add
healthy organic material, which help the soil retain water and lighter when added to your
garden.

Scope and delimitation:

This study will articulate the subject of the study which is the utilization of banana peels
as an ingredient to produce a fertilizer. the researchers purpose is to bring out what can
banana peel can be as a fertilizer for plants. This study will answer the following
questions given in the statement of the problem. The researcher will only use a tomato
plant for our observation the experiment will be held in (Mintal tugbok, davao city, sitio
basak) this study will benefits all of the farmers in Mintal, tugbok davao city as a product
of them and also to the future researchers
