ANAK BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

“Freddie Aguilar” “Queen”
EXPOSITION N’ong isilang ka sa mundong ito Mama, just killed a man
Laking tuwa ng magulang mo Put a gun against his head
At ang kamay nila ang iyong ilaw Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
At ang nanay at tatay mo'y Mama, life had just begun
Di malaman ang gagawin But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Minamasdan pati pagtulog mo

Nais mo'y maging malaya Didn't mean to make you cry
Di man sila payag If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Walang magagawa Carry on, carry on as if nothing really
Ikaw nga ay biglang nagbago matters
Naging matigas ang iyong ulo
At ang payo nila'y sinuway mo Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the
truth
Mama, ooh (Any way the wind blows)
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at
all
CLIMAX Di mo man lang inisip na Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Ang kanilang ginagawa'y para sa iyo Bismillah! No, we will not let you go (Let
Pagkat ang nais mo'y him go!)
Masunod ang layaw mo Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let him
Di mo sila pinapansin go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let me
Nagdaan pa ang mga araw go!)
At ang landas mo'y naligaw Will not let you go (Let me go!)
Ikaw ay nalulong sa masamang bisyo Never let you go (Never, never, never,
never let me go)
Oh oh oh oh
No, no, no, no, no, no, no

Oh, mama mia, mama mia (Mama mia,

let me go)
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me,
for me, for me
FALLING ACTION At ang una mong nilapitan So you think you can stone me and spit
Ang iyong inang lumuluha in my eye?
At ang tanong,"anak, ba't ka So you think you can love me and leave
nagkaganyan" me to die?
At ang iyong mga mata'y biglang lumuha Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby
ng di mo napapansin Just gotta get out, just gotta get right
outta here

Ooooh, ooh yeah, ooh yeah

Nothing really matters, anyone can see
Nothing really matters, nothing really
matters to me
Any way the wind blows...
RESOLUTION Nagsisisi at sa isip mo'y Is this the real life?
Nalaman mong ika'y nagkamali Is this just fantasy?
Nagsisisi at sa isip mo'y Caught in a landslide
Nalaman mong ika'y nagkamali No escape from reality
Nagsisisi at sa isip mo'y
Nalaman mong ika'y nagkamali... Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
Little high, little low
Any way the wind blows
Doesn't really matter to me, to me

PERSONAL NOTES:

The first song, Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak”, follows a linear structure of storytelling, akin to a child’s growth.
Nothing much was needed to be arranged, so, I have only adjusted which stanzas suits the better on the story
structure. However, the 2nd example was a bit different, could be because of its loose context as to what it is
about, and its capability to be interpreted in different ways.

I believe that the structure of the song, Bohemian Rhapsody is arranged by starting on the resolution –
where the character contemplates his own predicament, with a similar tone on the song’s end lines; And this
contemplation is followed by the recollections of the singer’s memories that concludes him into making such
answer to his life. In thinking so, I have placed the first 2 stanzas on the Resolution part of the story structure. I
chose the lyrics on the Exposition part because I think it best explains what is happening with the character. The
first lines were really vague without further context from the proceeding stanzas. Also, the lines that I placed in
the Exposition have a stark contrast in tone than the other parts, where the rest of the lyrics seems to be an
introspection of a character’s mind.

If I describe the story structure of Bohemian Rhapsody in this way, it would be: The Exposition laments
the character’s recent sin that he did to his mother, but this was followed through by the rising action, where his
confession only led to him hurting her mother, it details his intentions to leave away. This feeling was further
exacerbated on the Climax by the character’s guilt and shame manifesting like some devil that was placed by
Beelzebub, as he stated through the song. We can clearly see here his state of mind at war. But only though
accepting this guilt he moves past through these troubling thoughts. Here in the Falling action, he now embodies
his decision to acknowledge his shortcomings and moves on. Lastly, the Resolution reiterates this acceptance,
by opening his eyes, and like the breeze blowing freely, this dark past in his life won’t affect him anymore.
