GECLWR-18 - The Life and Works of Rizal

Module 1: Assignment No. 1

Is the teaching of Rizal course realistic given the dangers and sensitivity of
literature as means of communication in learning nationalism, patriotism, and
volunteerism? Do we really learn nationalism and patriotism with the present pedagogy
of Rizal course?

Teaching the Rizal course serves to educate young people of every generation
about Dr. Jose Rizal with his contributions to our country, and his patriotism and
influences. Despite the dangers and sensitivity of this writings, it is significant for us young
people to comprehend and appreciate his life and work in order to help us break away
from colonialism.

Teaching Rizal will also help us remember our national hero and definitely will
ignite a sense of patriotism and nationalism in our minds. By his life and works, it will help
us in understanding his perspective during his time, as it may provide insight into relevant
issues that we face today.

With the current education of Rizal course, we may learn about his greatest
contribution to our country in terms of nationalism and patriotism. And by the time that we
will finish the degree we are currently taking, may we also take inspiration and knowledge
with us on the field we are going with a strong sense of nationalism in us.

We shall remember him not only for his name and novels, but also as a national
hero who changed our lives and gave us the freedom we have today.
