700E Type 5D Hydraulically-Controlled Deluge Valve with HRV

Operation
The Bermad Model 700E Type 5D is suited for hydraulic remote-control systems with wet pilot line. Quick opening
response is controlled by remote hydraulic release, boosted by local release, of upper chamber pressure.
The 700E Type 5D is held closed by pressure applied to the upper chamber ➊ of the main valve. The closed valve
prevents the water or water-foam from entering the system until the pressure is released from the upper chamber.
In the SET condition, the water pressure, supplied through the restricted priming line ➋, is trapped in the main
valve’s upper chamber, by a check valve ➌ and a normally held closed HRV ➍ (Hydraulic Relay Valve). The HRV is
held closed by the maintained pressure in the wet pilot line ➎.
The typical detection system, including a release system with a wet pilot line and closed release systems, is installed
in a remote location and connected to the valve trim. The trapped water pressure holds the HRV closed and thus the
seal-disc of the main valve is held to the valve seat ➏. Sealing is drip-tight and the system piping is dry.
In a FIRE or TEST condition, water is released from the upper chamber, either by the opened HRV (upon pressure
drop in the wet pilot line) or by the manual release ➐. Water exits the accelerator ➑ faster than it can be supplied to
the upper chamber, allowing the main valve to open and water to flow into the system piping and to the alarm device.
For information on installation and maintenance, see BERMAD publication "700E Type 5D IOM".
