How has technology affected human history?

Technology is one of the most relevant creations in the human world, nowadays, it has

turned into a passkey being used at familiar places like our homes or to do vital activities on

our jobs, even more after the pandemic situation we had. Nevertheless, it had been pointed

out that as well as it has been useful, it has also brought some damage along with it. In this

way, we got to ask ourselves has technology been as good as we thought it would be for

humanity. The benefits of technology are obvious, internet connects people all over the world,

it had come through with easier ways to connect with people and the information we need.

But what about the downsides? The internet can be addictive and is constantly distracting us

from what’s important in life. Computers are taking over many jobs, such as customer service

representatives or cashiers. But before we get to check this, we need to understand first what

do we really mean when we talk about technology?

According to the (Cambridge Dictionary,2022) technology is “(The study and knowledge

of) the practical, especially industrial, use of scientific discoveries.” Now that we know this,

we can start talking about the pros and the cons that it has to offer in our present, what it had

done on our past and what it can get to make on our future. The ones that get to be more in

touch with technology are our little kids, younger brothers, sisters, cousins, among other close

people in our life. It is not new to us that they learn way faster than us and since technology

has too much to offer them is difficult to keep them away from it, one of the areas that can be

highly affected is the children’s attention. If they have the possibility to access to everything

that they like or get interested on just by one click, why would they just stay focus on just one

thing? It gets to be simple just to make a quick change to get something different in a second,

but We will not always have the opportunity to enjoy our loved ones, we shouldn’t waste

the opportunities we get to have to talk with them and focus on the important things of life.

On the other hand, we have connections and easiest ways to do our jobs technology has led

to increased access to information, improved communication between people It has also made

it possible for people to get access to solutions to their problems even across borders. There is

no way we can get to deny how easy has it become for us to get connected with many other

people around the world, this has opened new possibilities on the job. Even more now, after

we have experienced remote jobs due to the pandemic situation we had through these years,

getting to an office everyday has become part of the past. I believe that the chance that

technology is giving us is something we should not waste, we will have to get used to it since

our future is going to be made of it.

However, not everything is good with technology. It has helped us to connect with some

other people for jobs, but it has also made it more difficult for us to communicate with the

people that surrounds us, “Overuse of screen time displaces time spent engaging in real life

social interactions.” (Beurkens, 2020) Due to the possibility to be encourage and more honest

among internet since it usually does not have any come back, makes it hard for face-to-face

situations where adults and children do not really know how to act properly or are just too

scared of trying and rather stay quiet most of the times.

Some tips from professionals are to try to understand what you are addicted to if is the case

and make a plan to deal with that addiction, also as it is said “Out of sight is out of mind” try

to go for a walk with your family or friends, enjoy some board games and leave the phone

aside for a few hours, it will surprise you the amount of things you can get to do when you

focus on something that it not on internet.

As a conclusion from the research that was made for this essay it’s easy getting to

understand that technology is going to be good if we get to give it the proper use, locking

ourselves on the internet walls always will never be good. It can be used as a tool for our

activity’s, jobs, to get more knowledge and to meet new people, but is necessary to remember

that what we should place first is the people that is close to us, keeping our health and trying

not to waste time on things that will not get to be good in any way for us. If we are looking

for technology just to get distracted instead of getting the important tools from it to be

better every day, then we are not making it right, technology was created with the purpose

of helping humans through everything that gets to be possible, giving it wrong uses will only

make the effort that many scientists made to give it to us not worthy. We will never get to be

able to judge technology on the two borders of completely good or completely bad, since

most of the times those situations get to happen due to the use we give it, it’s up to us making

good or bad. So, if you had to take the decision, what will you choose today?
