- One of the greatest Filipino painters of the late 19th century is Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo. La
Laguna Estigia, also called The River Styx or simply The Styx, is a Greco-Roman picture that is
based on Dante Alighieri's epic poem Inferno, which was written in the fourteenth century. The
poem Inferno describes a voyage into hell, with nine concentric rings representing the various
degrees of sin and depravity. The foul water of the river Styx is home to the fifth circle of Hell,
referred to as Wrath. Hidalgo depicts a gloomier and more enigmatic interpretation of Dante's
poetry in this painting. La barca de Aqueronte, its companion painting, was created as a pair
with this one. During the General Exhibition of the Philippines in Madrid in 1887, it won a silver
medal.

- My belief is that Leonardo da Vinci, an Italian painter, created The Mona Lisa, a half-length
portrait. It has been called "the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most
sung about, and the most parodied work of art in the world" and is regarded as the
paradigmatic masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance.

- According to my study, this is the "Parisan Life" artwork. The picture depicts modern social
conventions, gender politics, and national allegory in a multi-layered manner. Formal and
sociological analyses show that a woman who is thought to be a prostitute is the target of male
attention. Women were becoming more and more viewed as a danger to the status quo in Paris.
They were viewed as the courtisane or the prostitute if they did not fit the stereotype of a
femme honnête (respectable woman). The prostitute had the reputation of spreading venereal
disease to men, making her a hazardous lady.
- Pablo Picasso, a Spanish artist, created a sizable oil painting on canvas titled Guernica in 1937. It
is one of his most well-known pieces and is hailed by many art critics as the most stirring and
potent anti-war artwork ever created. It is on display in Madrid's Museo Reina Sofia.

- For it is my belief that when Van Gogh created The Starry Night, he was seeking relief from his
crippling depression at the Saint-Paul asylum in Saint-Rémy, southern France. It represents his
personal observations of the scenery outside his window as well as the memories and feelings it
brought up for him.
