Reducing pressure in water distribution

systems is a proven technique for reducing
leakage and the frequency of bursts. One

Conventionally, pressure reduction is

achieved by a Pressure Reducing Valve
(PRV) which delivers a fixed outlet pressure
to the system.

The Modulo One is a ‘hydraulic-less’

electronic controller that compensates for Electronic pressure controller and data
“headloss” downstream of the PRV and logger
reduces night time pressure.
No solenoid valves
Solenoid valves and filters used in
conventional pressure controllers affect No filters
system reliability. Modulo One does not use
solenoid valves or filters. It offers Time or flow profile operating modes
significantly higher reliability and can be
used in situations where conventional Internally powered - 3 year battery life
systems would fail.
Data logging of inlet pressure (optional),
Modulo One requires only two connections outlet pressure and flow
to the PRV and is easily set-up using the
“Modulo Wizard” on a hand-held PDA. Easy installation and set up via PDA hand-

Data Logging
Modulo One incorporates a 2
channel data logger with one flow
channel and one pressure channel.
Pressure measurements are taken
from an integral pressure sensor and
data is recorded whilst controlling.
Installation
A control chamber is fitted to the
pilot valve of the PRV and two
colour-coded tubes connect Modulo
One to the PRV and pilot valve.

Operation
Modulo One can be programmed for
time or flow profile operating modes.
Time-Based Profile Modulation
Prior to starting control, historical
flow and pressure data is recorded
on the distribution system and a
typical daily cycle of pressure is
established. A pressure profile is
derived and loaded via user-friendly
software.

Flow Modulation
A simple profile of flow vs pressure
for the distribution system is
calculated from the headloss curve.
When controlling the flowrate is
measured and dynamically
averaged. The corresponding target
pressure is read form the profile and
the PRV outlet pressure is adjusted
to this value.
The pressure is maintained by the
pilot until the next flow measurement
is taken. As the flowrate changes,
the PRV outlet pressure is adjusted
according to the profile.

Software
PMAC Lite is compatible with
Microsoft Windows 95, 98 and NT,
making full use of the built in screen,
printer and plotter support,
incorporating many features to ease
operation and maximise efficiency.
The PMAC Lite local comms module
offers functions including
downloading data, configuring,
commissioning and starting/stopping
logging.
Data may be viewed graphically or
as values and can be exported to a
spreadsheet. This data may be
summarised and automatic
calculation or max/minsand means
displayed.
Data form multiple sites can be
displayed on a common axis.
