Introduction
The Advertisers Footy Fans online survey was hosted on
theadvertiser.com.au for 32 days from Fri 16th June until Mon
17th July 2006.
The questionnaire was based upon last years online Footy Fans
survey and was modified to include questions that were relevant
this season.
Some of the issues explored by the survey included:
Attendance at AFL and SANFL fixtures
Best players in the AFL as judged by the public
Best and worst coaches
Performance of the AFL in season 2006
Favourite TV and radio commentators
Performance of umpires

Care must always be taken when interpreting the results of

online surveys. While it is an inexpensive and fun way to
encourage reader involvement, the results are not necessarily
representative of the views of all South Australians.
Online surveys, like their phone-in counterparts used by
television and radio stations, are based on a flawed methodology
that relies on a self-selected sample. Respondents to this
survey are limited to those people who can access a webconnected computer, and feel interested enough to spend the
time to complete the survey.
Therefore, these results are the opinions of our respondents
rather than South Australians in general.

This report presents the results in the same order as asked in the
questionnaire. We received 3,893 unduplicated (and non-blank)
responses which was 16% up on last years 3,363 unduplicated
non-blank responses.

About Our Respondents

The following tables give a demographic breakdown of the 3,893
respondents that this analysis is based upon. One problem with
self-completion surveys is that not all questions are answered by
every respondent. This is why the number of respondents in
some tables in this report sums to less than 3,893.
