Tobacco is a kind of drug. People have been free to use it.

Some people think that it

should be illegal to use it comparing with other drugs. To what extent do you agree
or disagree?

It is true that tobacco industry has grown dramatically in recent years. Some people
who smoke think this product is a kind of drug and they have been free to use it.
Personally, I would contend that the consumption of tobacco shoud be prohibited or
there must have laws for this.

On the one hand, athough, many Corp. and nations have made a fortune in the
cigarettes trading. For instance, some surveys result show that the total amount of
taxes collected from this industry is 269-300 billion USD per year. Besides, from
movies to music videos and high-fashion photo shoots, cigarettes have been a staple of
our culture whether we’re thinking of the cool rebel of the mysteriously woman.

However, I believe the positive aspects of tobacco are eclipsed by more immediate
threats to life, health of individuals and society as a whole. First off, those who
regularly smoke might face a higher risk for some serious diseases, some of that leads
to death. Without a doubt, scientific studies show that smoke contains up to 7,000
toxic chemicals, of which 70 have been considered carcinogenic to humans. Actually
one in eight cancers are caused by smoking and even secondhand smokers can suffer a
lung cancer. In fact, 33,000 non-smokers die of heart disease each year from smoke
exposure. Secondly, because tobacco can be farmed on all continents except
Antarctica, it also causes serious environment damage. In reality, companies want to
produce more and more so countries that grow the plant actually cut forests to make
room for tobacco agriculture. What’s more it takes a lot of harmful pesticides and
fertilizers to nourish them. According to WHO research, the world spends $422 billion
annually on the treatment of diseases caused by smoking and economic losses of $1.4
trillion. This far exceeds the number of benefits mentioned in the previous paragraph.

In summary, due to the effects of tobacco, I argue that the government should ban its
use. This issue is still a moot point, everyone should take a deeper look at it.
