FREE FALL

FREE FALL

• It is a motion of a body where its weight is the only force acting on an object.

FREE-FALLING OBJECT

 It is an object which is falling under the sole influence of gravity.

FREE FALL MOTION

• It has constant acceleration as in the case of uniformly accelerated motion.

• Acceleration due to gravity, “g”, is a vector quantity, its downward direction is represented by
negative sign (-9.8 m/s 2 ¿

CHARACTERISTICS

1. The object under free-falling motion always has a acceleration of -9.8 m/s2 .

2. The initial velocity of the object when dropped from an elevated place is always equal to 0 m/s.

3. If an object is thrown vertically upward, the initial velocity is positive. Also the velocity decreases
because its direction is opposite to the direction of motion.

4. When the object reaches the maximum height the velocity of the object at that point is 0 m/s.

5. The object will start to fall down as if it is dropped from a certain height. The object gains speed
but negative sign is affixed to denote downward direction.

6. Two values of speed (one from upward and the other one from downward motion) at the same
height are equal in magnitude but opposite in sign due to their directions.

7. Any mass thrown downward has negative initial velocity which increases in magnitude because
the motion has the same direction of acceleration.
