Solutions
(1) c. a and d
(2) b. 40°
Step 1
According to the question, ∠CBD is the exterior angle of triangle ABC and we know that an
exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the measures of the two non-adjacent
interior angles.
Therefore, ∠CBD = ∠CAB + 80° ----(1)
Step 2
In triangle ABC, ∠CAB + ∠ABC + ∠ACB = 180°
⇒ ∠CAB + ∠ABC = 180° - 80°
Step 3
It is given that AP and BP are bisectors of ∠CAB and ∠CBD, respectively.
Therefore, ∠PAB = ∠CAB/2 -----(3)
∠CBP = ∠CBD/2 -----(4)
Step 4
Now, in triangle ABP, ∠PAB + ∠ABP + ∠APB = 180° ...(Since, the sum of all the angles of a
triangle is 180°)
⇒ ∠APB = 180° - ∠PAB - ∠ABP
⇒ ∠APB = 180° - ∠CAB/2 - (∠ABC + ∠CBD/2) ...(From equation (4), ∠CBP = ∠CBD/2)
⇒ ∠APB = 40°
Step 5
Hence, the value of ∠APB is 40°.
(3) d. 12
Step 1
When we look at the table, we notice that there are 3 types of food available and each type
has 3, 2, 2 options, respectively.
Step 2
Thus, the total number of meal combinations = 3×2×2 = 12.
Step 3
Hence, option d is the correct answer.
(4) 15
Step 1
According to question Gauri played squash on Monday. Gauri plays squash every 3rd day.
Now Gauri will play squash again on Thursday after 3 days and so on ....
Step 2
By this way you can say that after 15 days she will play squash again on Tuesday.
(5) 25
Step 1
If Gita starts from the black dot shown in the picture, her path will be as follows,
Step 2
It is clear from this path that she will be at a distance of 25 km from the starting point.
(6) 27 meters2
Step 1
If we look at the given figure carefully, we notice that the rectangle ABCD is inscribed in a
circle and the diagonal BD of the rectangle ABCD is the diameter of the circle.
Step 2
Diameter of the circle = BD = 10 meters
BD 10
Radius of the circle = = = 5 meters
2 2
Area of the shaded region = Area of the circle - Area of the rectangle ABCD
= (πr2) - (AB × AD)
= 3 × (5)2 - (6 × 8)
= 75 - 48
= 27 meters2
Step 3
(7) 6
Step 1
A+B
Since, A ♣ B means , the value of 10 ♣ (1 ♣ 3),
2
1+3
⇒ 10 ♣ (1 ♣ 3) = 10 ♣ ( )
2
4
⇒ 10 ♣ (1 ♣ 3) = 10 ♣ ( )
2
⇒ 10 ♣ (1 ♣ 3) = 10 ♣ 2
Step 2
A+B
Again use, A ♣ B =
2
10 + 2
⇒ 10 ♣ (1 ♣ 3) =
2
12
⇒ 10 ♣ (1 ♣ 3) =
2
Therefore, 10 ♣ (1 ♣ 3) = 6
(8) 3
Step 1
3a + 3a + 1 = 108 can be solved for the value of a, by the help of the following steps:
3a + 3a + 1 = 108
⇒ 3a + (3a 31) = 108
⇒ 3a(1 + 31) = 108
⇒ 3a(1 + 3) = 108
108
⇒ 3a =
4
⇒ 3a = 33
Step 2
The above condition is satisfied only when the value of a is 3. Hence, the value of a is 3.
Step 1
According to the question, the distance between A and C is 132 meters and we have to find
the distance between B and D.
Let us assume the distance between B and D is x meters.
Step 2
Let us connect the point B to point D as shown in the following figure.
If we look at the figure carefully, we will notice that ΔBED is a right-angled triangle and the
distance between A and C is equal to the distance between B and E,
DE = CD - AB = 146 - 61 = 85 meters
In ΔBED,
BD2 = BE2 + DE2 (Pythagorean Theorem)
⇒ x2 = 1322 + 852
By solving it, x = 157.
Step 3
Hence, the distance between B and D is 157 meters.
(10) 14
Step 1
Let us find the sum of numbers in each row.
Sum of numbers in row 1 = 9 + 20 = 29
Sum of numbers in row 2 = 10 + 19 = 29
Sum of numbers in row 3 = 14 + 15 = 29
Step 2
So, sum of numbers in the fourth row should be 29.
First number = ?
Second number = 15
So, first number should be = 29 - 15 = 14
Step 3
Thus, the missing number is 14.
