Human life and development depend on food.

It is a difficult task for the entire globe to provide

the food and nutritional security of more than nine billion people. A new analysis found that
the risk of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreading through food is underestimated
(Han et al. 2020). Food may be consumed in either its raw or processed form to get energy and
sustain growth. Food waste has raised severe concerns recently all around the world. A sizable
percentage of food is wasted at several times along the cycle of food production and
consumption.
To prevent food items from deteriorating and spoiling and to extend their shelf lives while
assuring consumers that the product is free of harmful bacteria, food preservation involves
using science-based knowledge and a variety of available technologies and techniques. It also
involves preventing the growth of bacteria, yeast, fungus, and other microbes as well as
postponing the oxidation of lipids that results in rancidity. The shelf-life of a product is the
amount of time it takes for it to decay to an unfavorable level. Degrading foods lose qualitative
attributes including flavor, texture, color, and other sensory components. Nutritional quality is
impacted by food deterioration as well. Physical, biological, microbiological, chemical, and
metabolic factors can all contribute to food deterioration. No aging or discolouration will arise
from the process. Sealing, which stops germs from reentering, is another aspect of
preservation. Food preservation essentially ensures that food doesn't become contaminated by
dangerous organisms or chemicals and that it maintains its ideal color, texture, flavor, and
nutritional value.
Food preservation is crucial during lockdowns and quarantines, like the one we are now going
through, to increase the shelf life of fresh goods and lower the amount of food that must be
purchased. Health decisions including food have a big impact. The ways that food is prepared
may have an impact on nutrition and health benefits. However, little is still known about the
factors influencing people's food preferences and how experiences with food preparation
impact them. This research will highlight the factors that are thought to be useful in food
preservation and examine why it is crucial for extending the shelf life of food and guaranteeing
food safety. Using this strategy often requires the use of proper packaging techniques and
materials.

This essay aims to do study on local Filipino households' attitudes, experiences, and techniques
for preparing meals at home. Knowing how to consistently preserve food at home guarantees
that nothing is wasted, provides some food security in case of an emergency, and gives you
access to wholesome, organically grown homegrown (or sectionally grown) food all year long.
