1. Definisi if clause and social function if clause.

Clause is a sentences that condition about a presupposition, imagination, or an


event that has not yet happened.

Social function If clause is used to give a suggestion about the action to be


taken if you want an event to happen.

2. General structure of if clause imperative and suggestion.

 Imperative

used to tell people to take an action.

Formula : If clause + Simple present, verb 1 + object.

 Suggestion

used to give advice on what action to take.

Formula : if clause + should, ought to, had better + simple present.

3. Language feature in if clause imperative and suggestion.

consists of two clauses namely:

1) If clause or conditional clause that begins with the word if.

2) Main clause that talks about the outcome or situation that will occur.

4. Explain about

~ If clause imperative

used to tell someone to do something.

Formula : IF + SIMPLE PRESENT, V1 + O

Example : If you want not to be late, take a bath soon!

~ If clause suggestion

is used to give advice on what to do.


Formula : IF + SIMPLE PRESENT, S + SHOULD /HAD BETTER/ OUGH
TO + V1

Example : If you need to know some cooking menus, why don’t you search it
in internet?

~ If clause general truth

to state a fact that happened or will happen.

Formula : IF + SIMPLE PRESENT, SIMPLE FUTURE

Example : If the sun rises, the day begins.

~ If clause reminder

to remind the consequences that must be done.

Formula : IF + SIMPLE PRESENT, S + HAVE TO/HAS TO/ MUST + V1

Example : If you want to be the winner, you have to practice a lot.

~ If clause dream

to state a dream in the future about what might happen.

Formula : IF + SIMPLE PRESENT, SIMPLE FUTURE

Example : If am chosen to be an army, I will dedicate all of my life to this


country.
