The amplitude of a sinusoidal carrier is modulated by a single sinusoid to obtain the
amplitude modulated signal (¢) = 5 cos 1600rt + 20 cos 1800zt + 5 cos 2000zt. The value

Detailed Solution
Concept: Modulation index is also called Depth of modulation
Application: The general AM modulated signal expression is § (t) = Ac (1 + #cosw,t) cos wet
= s(t) = A.coswa F AY! [2 coswiat cos wt]
= A,cosw.t + * Ao [eos (wy, + we)t COS (we — Wy)
= s(t) = A.cosw.t + Av cos (wy + w,)t + Ag cos (w, — w,)t
Thus, we see that two terms have same amplitudes. Comparing with
s (t) = 5cos 16007t + 20cos 18007¢ + 5 cos 2000zt
we have 4
