Huey Long disagreed with the New Deal because he thought that:
• The National Revenue Authority was controlled by big businesses.
• The Agricultural Adjustment Administration left poor tenant farmers homeless. • The Social Security Act did not reduce the age gap between the rich and the poor. Father Charles Coughlin disagreed with the New Deal because he thought that: • The Great Depression and the New Deal were both set up by Wall Street bankers, therefore would prove ineffective. • Communists were responsible for some of these policies and were using Roosevelt to achieve their aims. Dr. Francis Townsend disagreed with the New Deal because he thought that: • Elderly people were suffering, having to resort to search through “bins for bits of leftover food”. • The elderly should get $200 per month to boost consumer spending. Upton Sinclair disagreed with the New Deal because he thought that: • Empty land and shut-down factories should be opened for the unemployed to use. • These unemployed workers would produce what would be needed, easing poverty.
