LITERATURE PAPER 3

1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTES

INSTRUCTIONS:

 This paper consists of two sections A and B.

 All sections are compulsory.
 Calculate your time appropriately.

SECTION A (20 marks)

1. THE MOON ALSO SETS: Osi Ogbu.
Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow.
Late in the evening, when it became evident that there would be no more visitors,
Mama Oby called her daughter to her room to discuss plans and work out the money needed.
The euphoria over the two had to face reality. Mama Oby knew that she could send Oby to
University but it could be a great sacrifice. A sacrifice she was willing to make. She would not
want any of her children to feel the absence of their father. Oby fully appreciated the situation
and she was overly sympathetic.
Oby’s admission had come late. By the time she reported, she would have missed the
orientation period and some introductory lectures. There was no time to lose.
“Oby, a great thing has happened to this family. Let’s not fight it. I thank you for placing
me well above my mates. I don’t know what would have become of us if I had taken some of the
advice I was receiving on this admission thing.” Her mind wondered off to Mama Ijeoma.
