The solo and duo singing contests have been chosen as two of the
main highlight activities for the MultifaCTEDgarbo 2022 in order to
mainstream the singing skills of students in the College of Teacher
Education, Negros Oriental State University-Main Campus. Moreover,
these competitions are proposed to improve and/or develop the cognitive,
emotional, and social skills necessary for building and improving one's
self-confidence, sense of competitiveness, and enthusiasm.
SOLO SINGING
1. Vocal
• Vocal Technique - Tone quality, breath support, intonation, diction, and
articulation.
• Harmony - How the harmonies have been arranged and executed difficultly and
creatively.
2. Expression
• Performance- How well does the performance express the song's meaning and
mood.
• Match - How well the voices and personalities match in relation to the song
performed.
3. Showmanship
* Show Design: Music selection, effective use of the stage or performance area, outfit,
and style.

DUO SINGING
1. Voice
* Quality of Voice - Natural richness of tone, depth, resonance; a strong yet dulcet vocal
sound that is enjoyable to listen to.
* Mastery of Voice - Development of the voice through the practice and training to attain
a higher level of proficiency and virtuosity.
* Range - Ability to hit low notes and high notes, and to glide smoothly through different
ranges without strain.
* Timbre - Ability to sing richer, deeper timbres as well as softer, sweeter tones; variance
of colors throughout performance.
2. Technique
* Timing - Ability to sing with rhythmic accuracy, taking liberties in a tasteful manner.
* Breathing - Supporting the voice with breath control, ability to sustain notes, taking
breaths in correct places (generally between phrases).
* Skill - Use of proper vocal technique (singing with an open palate, not shouting, not
resonating the nose, ect.) use and control of vibrato.
3. Harmony
* Rhythm - the placement of sounds in time. Utilizing the not wholly separate, elements,
such as accent, metre, and tempo.
* Connection - Using your individual melody to interact with your partner creating a
feeling of connection to each other and to the song.
* Blending - Merging the sounds of instruments of contrasting tone colors n such a way
that they produce a sound that is quite different from the mere sum of their parts.
4. Stage Presence
* Charisma - Allowing personality to shine through performance and emanate from the
stage; radiating a special X factor that is appealing, magnetic, and makes for star
quality.
* Movement - Use of space, walking, dancing, or other movement appropriate for the
song; use of arms; posture, poise, energy.
5. Artistry
* Individuality - Deviating from original artist recording(s) to make the song one's own;
creation of unique style and charachter.
