Crankie Cabaret is on October 20-23 2022 at The Cherry in Ithaca.

We ask for a crankie performance under 10 minutes, please.

We will be doing a tech rehearsal on Oct 20, and 3 shows Oct 21, and 22 in the evening
(7pm?), and Oct 23 in the afternoon (2pm?).
We will pay you $100 per night of performance, so $300 for the show.
This is a show for adults so adult themes are just fine.

3. Short bios of people involved
4. Pictures to go with bios
5. Short video (if you can) of just a few scenes scrolled through.

MAKE YOUR OWN CRANKIE BOX: http://www.thecrankiefactory.com/348971243
(you can also use one of our boxes - or get help from us to make one)
Our boxes:
Box 1 (LilySilly Box) is 32 inches wide and 18 inches tall in the visible area. You do
want your scroll to be taller than 18 inches so it covers the whole space. We cut ours at
20.5 inches but only put images on the 18 inches in the center. There are also some
decorative dips on the top part of the viewed area, and some of those waves come
down a little into the 18 inches, so maybe going for 17.5 inches is safer if you don't want
any bit of image cut off.

Box 2: (Isaac’s Box) height 24 inches x width 33 inches

Box 3: (Charity’s Box) height 18 inches x width 24 inches

Materials:
You can use a roll of paper or tyvek. People have also used fabric.
We have Tyvek and can sell you the amount you need from our BIG roll. If you want your
own, we order tyvek from Material Concepts. It doesn't tear at all. You want hard structure
tyvek, 10G or 10Gx. Many sizes are available. They also have black tyvek. Ours is 22 inches tall
- we can sell it to you for 25 cents a foot.

You can draw/paint on tyvek with the following things:

Sharpies of all colors - works great but can be a pain to color in big sections. Same with regular
markers.
Silkscreen ink - It's fluid and flexible, but it does take some time to dry.
India ink - works on one side of the Tyvek, but not the other. Definitely test.
Tyvek cut outs glued on tyvek - black tyvek looks great when spray glued onto the white
tyvek, white tyvek on white creates a nice shadowy effect.
Shadow Puppets - you can make shadow puppets from card stock or other materials. We can
show you how! Here is a video of how we do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Light:
Crankies can be backlit or frontlit. If you use shadow puppets, they should be backlit.
We use a clamp lamp with a dimmer - we have them and you can use ours for the show if you
want!

Music/ Sound:
There can be music, or words, or both. Live or recorded. We have a PA, we have
classical guitarists. Let us know what you need!

3. I Don't Feel Dead Yet - Katherine Fahey (great story) a southern ghost story
which takes place in Louisiana

4: Musical Squirrel Attack - this guy attaches musical instruments to the

crank. In this one squirrels attack Baltimore! Also in this one:
MusicalCrankie - 1.5 minutes into the video he cranks it and you see
giant cats attack a city.

5. Katherine Fahey - "Francis Whitmore's Wife" - really lovely art, and

historical tale and I know Moonrise - scary tale for children and adults
alike.
6. Video we made about how to make your own shadow puppets.
There are easier ways, but this way is the best. We can help you
make puppets!
