TRP#1 METHOD OF TEACHING GRAMMAR AND DIAGRAMMING

The reporters previously discussed the methods of teaching and how to diagram a sentence.
They gave us few examples of methods of teaching such as the deductive method which is also
known as the traditional method. The instructor explains first before he give exercises to the
students. Giving learners rules, followed by examples and practice, is the first step in a logical
approach to language instruction. It is a method of teaching new material that is focused on the
teacher. Comparatively speaking, an inductive approach is more learner-centered because it
starts with examples and invites students to identify rules. Inductive method on the other hand is
also known as the informal method. Based on what I’ve learned from the previous discussion,
the teacher gives the students’ example as the starting point for the inductive technique before
moving on to the theory. It is also a method that suggests teaching grammar through usage
rather than through rules. Inductive-Deductive method, I can remember that there’s this
explanation on the powerpoint that the reporters have presented saying that with the use of this
technique, students develop rules with the use of examples. Lastly, the incidental method. This
type of instruction is additionally known as the correlational reference method. Using this
strategy, students can relate grammar to other relevant logical constructs.

Diagramming Sentences, which Mr. Silang have discussed was quite tricky and hard to
understand since there are a lot of things to do. Sentence diagram uses a fixed set of rules amd a
standardized code of line types. The most commonly used method was the Reed-Kellogg system.
Mr. Silang also discuseed the grammatical components that we should be able to identify before
proceeding on diagramming. If you don’t know anything about the parts of speech then, it will be
hard for you to diagram a sentence. He also explained clear and concisely how to diagram
properly. Specifically the five steps in diagramming. After that, it is also included on their report
the most effective ways to teach grammar and the learning through writing.
