PERIMETER AND AREA 2

1. ABCD is the rectangle where AB = 12 cm and BC = 5 cm. E is a point on the

opposite side of AB to C, as shown in the diagram below. If AE = BE and the
area of triangle AEB is 36 cm2, find the area, in cm2, of triangle AEC.

2. The figure below shows a square ABCD, where point P lies on BC and AP =
4 cm. Let 𝐵𝐵1 , 𝐶𝐶1 , 𝐷𝐷1 be the perpendiculars from the points B, C and D to
the line AP respectively. If 𝐵𝐵1 + 𝐶𝐶1 + 𝐷𝐷1 = 6𝑐𝑚, find the area, in 𝑐𝑚2 , of
triangle APD.

3. Let ABCD be a parallelogram and point E be the midpoint of AB, as shown in

the figure below. If the area of the triangle CDF is 2692 𝑐𝑚2 , then find the area,
in 𝑐𝑚2 , of the triangle BCE.
4. In quadrilateral ABCD, AD = 30 cm, BC =17 cm, ∠ADC= 45° and
∠BAD=∠ BCD= 90° . What is the area, in 𝑐𝑚2 , of ABCD?

5. The diagram shows eight isosceles right triangles placed around a point so
that the hypotenuse of each triangle coincides with the leg of the next triangle.
If the total area of all eight triangles is 637.5 𝑐𝑚2 , find the area, in 𝑐𝑚2 , of the
shaded triangle.

6. In parallelogram ABCD, E is the midpoint of AD, H is the midpoint of AB. G,

F and K are points on BC, CD and CA respectively such that BG=2GC,
DF = 3FC and 2CK = 3KA. The area of parallelogram ABCD is 240 𝑐𝑚2 . What
is the difference between the areas, in cm2, of triangles EFK and HKG?
7. In the diagram below, WXYZ is a rectangle where point R is on XY such that
XR=RY=7cm and point B is on YZ such that YB = 4cm and BZ = 2cm.
If point O is the intersection of RB and YW, then what is the area, in cm2, of
triangle ROW?

8. In a triangle ABC, D is a point on BC and F is a point on AB. The point K of

reflection of B across DF is on the opposite side of AC to B. AC intersects FK at
P and DK at Q. The total area of triangles AFP, PKQ and QDC is 10 𝑐𝑚2 . If we
2
add to this the area of the quadrilateral DFPQ, we obtain of the area of ABC.

What is the area, in cm2, of triangle ABC?

9. O is a point inside a quadrilateral ABCD such that its distances from the four
vertices are 1, 2, 4 and 7 cm in some order. What is the maximum area, in cm2,
of ABCD?
