Bohr Model Jigsaw Activity Instructions

Step 1: Each student in your group will be responsible for ONE of the following sets
of elements. The number in the brackets indicate the number of electrons for each
element:

Student 1: H (1), Be (4), N (7), Ne (10), Al (13), S (16)

Student 2: He (2), B (5), O (8), Na (11), Si (14), Cl (17)

Student 3: Li (3), C (6), F (9), Mg (12), P (15), Ar (18)

● For EACH of the six elements in your set, you will need a small piece of
paper. On each paper:

1. Draw the BOHR MODEL for the element

2. Indicate the number of SHELLS

3. Indicate the number of VALENCE ELECTRONS

E.g. Potassium (K)

4 shells, 1 valence electron

NOTE: Do as much as you can on your own (this is good practice drawing Bohr
models for your quiz), however, you may help each other if needed

Step 2: Work as a group

1. Organize: Once all 18 Bohr models have been drawn, as a group look at how
you could ORGANIZE these into a periodic table. Pay special attention to the
number of shells and the number of valence electrons. You must be able to
explain WHY you chose to organize your table the way that you did

2. Picture: Once you have agreed on how to organize your table - take a
CLEAR PICTURE of your organized elements

3. Reflect: As a group, answer the questions in the reflection form. Don’t forget
to upload your photo!
