Part 1: Build an atom

Open the link. Tap the play button, then select “Atom”.

Instructions:

1. Create a Lithium (Li) atom that has 3 protons, 3 neutrons, 3 electrons, then, click the
stable/unstable button.
2. Add 3 neutrons.

What happened when you added the neutron? Are there any changes that you noticed? Please state
your observations? (1pt)

When I added the neutrons to the existing protons, they immediately bonded with each other.
Adding the electrons turns it into a charged ion.

3. Click the reset button, then repeat step 1.

4. Add a proton.

What happened when you added the proton? Are there any changes that you noticed? Please state
your observations. (1pt)

The lithium ion changed and turned into Beryllium.

5. Click the reset button, then repeat step 1.

6. Add an electron.

What happened when you added the electron? Are there any changes that you noticed? Please
state your observations. (1pt)

Adding another electron to the existing atoms turned it into a negatively charged ion.

Part 2:

1. Click the reset button

2. Select 3 elements in the periodic table (from elements 1-15) and build it in the simulator.
3. Make sure the elements that you will build are stable and neutral.
4. Provide a screenshot of the element that you built.

Conclusion (5pts):

My conclusion is that every element requires a specific process wherein they can be made successfully.
It made me realize how amazing it is that we exist seeing as there could have been different variables in
the required elements for life to exist but everything happened in the right time just so that we could
survive right now.
