Hundreds of experienced, dedicated instructors deliver over 1,000 different courses at 11 chartered Outward Bound schools ‘across the country. Outward Bound expeditions and programs are inside city and suburban classrooms and ‘outside in rugged wilderness settings. You are waist deep crossing a mucky swamp with 60-pound backpacks strapped on and your student refuses to go one: step further. You think Here? Now? Are you kidding?" This all comes with the job - witnessing self-discovery and ‘transformation can be hard, frustrating and exhausting, but the journey can also be powerlully rewarding. You have provided your students with progressively more challenging activites. Now, the “impossible"is only a temporary obstacle to overcome. You have cultivated a confident expedition team ~ resilient, compassionate and driven. Thisis the essence of being an Outward Bound instucior. You have exposed people to new sills, experiences, ideas and a profound Bense of accomplishment that they wil carry with them for the restof their lives. Industry Leaders in Leaders Development We know that our students’ success is directly related to the professional growth and development of our instructors. ‘We investin our staffs growth with ongoing training and development, ensuring our staff set the industry standard for outdoor leadership. In their first season, new staff receive ~ 21 days of professional development followed by daily mentorship. We value technical, interpersonal, instructional, collaborative and leadership competencies in equal measure. Instructors develop the leadership abilities that not only enhance their students’ experience, but also support their long-term career aspirations. With 11 schools nationwide, your options depend on your outdoor els, interpersonal skis, experience and intorsts. Some schools require significant technical abil while others wil rain specie course area skils. tis an important part of the process to research each school and determine which positon(s) you are interested in applying for. Ask yourself what type of population(s) you would like to serve, what technical skis do you feel comforablelqualifed facilitate, and in what part of he country would like to work. Choose a Position to Match Your Skills Logistics Coordinators are the backbone of our program ‘operations;, planning and preparing are their forte while interacting with students effectively during course stars, resupplies, and course ends. The Logistics Coordinator (LC) teamis a well organized, efficient machine; LCs desires to ‘work within a team, but are also motivated independent ‘workers. LCs are multtaskers by being detall oriented yot, keeping the big picture of day to day operations in mind. LCs are the foundation of the community with their extended presence and role modeling of Outward Bound values. Interested applicants should have a passion for the mission of ‘Outward Bound, organizational skills, nowledge on gear use ‘and maintenance, refined social sills, experience living in ‘communities, motivated to work in a tearm and independently, manual driving, and taller experience. Basecamp Cooks feed hungry bellies but also staf’'s souls by creating a posidve work environment in the kitchen. Basecamp Cooks have a challenging job of meeting dietary needs, while preparing lunch and dinner for 5-35+ people daily, as well as, ‘occasional staff events with up to 100 people. interested applicants should have interest in the mission of Outward ‘Bound, a passion for creative cooking, experience living in communities, bility to give and receive feedback, remain resilient and calm during stress, and experience managing a budget. Assistant instructors facilitate value forming experiences by promoting teamwork and leadership through challenges to change our students lives for the better. Assistant instructors (Al) are well rounded ‘outdoor educators with experience in education, interpersonal skills, and technical skills. As are educators capable of instructing and coaching students to lear through success and failure, ‘empower individuals and the team by gaining and utilizing skills, promote discovery through reflection, ‘and cultivate a fair and just environment.
