THERE IS – THERE ARE

a.-Usamos there is (singular) / there are (plural) para oraciones afirmativas.

Examples:

There is a book on the desk.

There are two books on the desk.

b.- Usamos there isn’t (singular) / there aren’t (plural) para oraciones negativas.

Examples:

There isn’t a book on the desk.

There aren’t any books on the desk.

c.- Usamos Is there…? (singular) / Are there...? (plural) para preguntas.

Examples:

Is there a book on the desk?

Are there any books on the desk?
 EXERCISES

I.-Look at the picture again and complete the

sentences with: There is / there are / There isn´t
or there aren´t:
There is a bedside table on the right.
There is a picture on the wall.
There is’n a fridge in the bedroom.
There is a doll on the bed.
There is’t a carpet under the bed.
There are some books on the shelf.
There are any flowers in the bedroom.
