Topic: How to write scripts.


Script: it is the process of writing stories for mass media, for example:
television, video games, features films.

How to write a script- writing:


Choose the topic:
You may think in a theme, topic you want to talk. You can take the inspiration
from the word around you.
You can use topics such as family, friends, friendship.

Choose the genre of the story:


The gender lets the reader to know what sort of story to expect. The gender can
be: action, drama, romantic, comedy, science fiction.

Choose the best setting or your story:


You need to make sure that the setting is the appropiate for the character you
have chosen. It can be a city, farm, town, abandoned house. etc.

The character may be interesting:


The character may have a goal to achieve during the script.
You may brainstorm who is the character and the characteristics. The events he
or she may face and how those events can change the character.

Create an protagonist and antagonist:


The antagonist needs to have similar qualities than the protagonist
For examples: the protagonist is a good person who help people and the
antagonist is a bad person who hurt the others.

Write sentences (1 or 2) logline to summarize the plot of the script.

Put in order the ideas:
When you write all the ideas you need to organize them in a chronological order
It may have sense, so you need to make sure to check it very well.

Plan to write minimun 2 or 3 pages per day:

You need to write all the ideas you have in mind, you do not need to worry
about grammar, spelling because you will make a review later. The more you
write the best for you. You need to set time to sit down and write it.
You need to prepare the place you are going to use, it must be comfortable, you
do not need to get distracted.

Think in the importance of the importance of each scene:

Write the story and think about what else you can add or remove. How can this
part can continue?

You may use clímax:


The writer needs to use high and low moments to make more interesting the
story.
Clímax: is the highest point of tensión in a story. A climax resolves the main
conflict of the story and it is the moment in which the character reaches or fail
his or her goal.
If the story is not good the climax will be boring. If the story is good it will have a
interesting climax.

The climax normally does not take much time in the story.

Climax and conflict:


Conflict: it struggle between two forces.
Climax: it is the turning point of the plot.

Tips to Write a Great Climax
1. You must focus on your Story's values, Not Just More “Conflict” or “Action”.

You need to make a deadline to have a goal to reach:

You need to consider an estimate time to finish the writing process. It can be 8
or 12 weeks. You will need a calendar to remind you how much left.

You can ask someone to listen the script:

You can ask other people to listen the story, if it sounds natural or it has sense.
If you find the others have problems to understand the ideas you will ave to
make a review and edit it.

Rewrite the script:

You need to rewrite it until you feel happy with it. The more you check the story
can create some problems because probably you add or eliminate some ideas
or dialogues creating confusing ideas. The good part is that you will review the
grammar and spelling

Take time:
When you finish to write the script you need at least 2 or 3 weeks to take a rest.
You must use this time to review and edit. You will do it with fresh eyes. You
can observe better the ideas.

Use some stuctures:
You need to use images, sounds effects, dialogues to make more interesting
the script for the reader.

How long it can be:


The script can be 90 to 120 pages.

Script format:
They are normally written using Courier front 12, single space.

Logline:
it is a short summary of the main events of the script. It need to use descriptive
language. At any stage of production a logline is a very useful tool to sell your
idea.
Logline is used to keep you on track.

 “Star Wars: A New Hope.” “When an optimistic farm boy discovers that he
has powers, he teams up with other rebel fighters to liberate the galaxy from the
sinister forces of the Empire.”

“Titanic”: Two star-crossed lovers fall in love on the maiden voyage of the
Titanic and struggle to survive as the doomed ship sinks into the Atlantic
Ocean.”

Plot: It is what happen in a story, it is centered in one moment, it is not just a
sequence of events. It can be also defines ad the steps the character takes to
solve the problems.

Elements of plot are:

1. Exposition: Characters and setting are established and the conflict, or


problem, is introduced.
2. Rising action: The conflict begins to affect the characters, complicating
their lives.
3. Climax: The conflict is faced during the main, most dramatic event of the
story.
4. Falling action: The story begins to slow down, showing results of the
climax.
5. Resolution: The story is tied up and concluded.

Strategies to write scripts:
1. Begin with action or dialogue.
2.Use questions.
3. Describe the Settings.
4. Begin with a background information.
5.Let the main character introduce himself or herself.

 Identify the audience. You must know very well the story.

 You must include the tittle, your name, pages numbers on all the scripts
