diagnosis check mode.

2. INDICATOR CHECK
a. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position while pressing the AUTO switch and R/F switch of
A/C control assembly at the same time.

b. Check if the indicator light to be on and off at intervals of 1 second for 4 times.

HINT:

l After the indicator check is completed, the system enters the DTC check mode automatically.
l To end the check mode, press the OFF switch.

3. DTC CHECK (SENSOR CHECK)


a. Perform an indicator check. After the indicator check is completed, the system enters the DTC
check mode automatically.
b. Read the code displayed on the panel. Refer to the list of codes on DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE
CODE CHART when reading the codes. (Trouble codes are the numbers appear on the
temperature display.)

c. If the slower display is desired, press the FRONT DEF switch and change it to stepped operation.
Each time the FRONT DEF switch is pressed, the display changes by 1 step.

4. CLEARING DTC
a. Clear DTC by one of the following methods.
1. Method 1: During sensor check, press the "FRONT DEF" switch and "REAR. DEF" switch
at the same time.
2. Method 2: Pull the ECU-B fuse in engine room J/B for 20 sec. or longer to clear the DTC
memory.

5. ACTUATOR CHECK
a. After entering the DTC check mode (Sensor Check Mode) press the R/F switch.
b. As each damper, motor and relay automatically operate actuator check at 1 second intervals from
step No.1 to No.10 continuously, check the temperature and air flow visually and by hand.

If the slower display is desired, press the DEF switch and change it to step operation. Each time the DEF
switch is pressed, the display changes by 1 step.

l *1: If the room temp. is approx. -18.6°C (-3.7°F) or lower, trouble code 11 may be displayed even though
the system is normal.
l *2: If the check is being performed in a dark place, DTC 21 (solar sensor circuit abnormal) may be
displayed even though the system is normal.
l *3: Compressor lock (DTC 22) is indicated only for a current occurring malfunction (See DTC 22
COMPRESSOR LOCK SENSOR CIRCUIT ).

To confirm DTC 22, perform the following steps.

1. With the engine ON, enter the DTC check mode.


2. Press the F/R switch to enter actuator check mode, and set the operation to Step No. 3.
3. Press the AUTO switch to return to DTC check mode.
4. The DTC is displayed after approx. 3 seconds.

This sensor sends 4 pulses par engine revolution to the A/C amplifier. If the number ratio of the compressor
revolution divided by the engine revolution is smaller than a predetermined value, the A/C amplifier turns the
compressor off. And, the indicator flashes at about 1 sec. intervals.

a. Install the manifold gauge set.
b. Remove A/C amplifier assy with connectors still connected.
c. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
d. Check voltage between terminal PSW of A/C amplifier connector and body ground when
refrigerant pressure is changed.
e. The voltage changes with refrigerant pressure as shown in the diagram below.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

The A/C amplifier outputs the magnetic clutch ON signal from terminal AC1 to the ECM receives this signal, it
sends a signal from terminal ACMG (MGCR) and switches the magnetic clutch relay ON, thus turning on the
magnetic clutch.

1. INSPECT HEATER CONTROL HOUSING SUB-ASSY (SPD)


a. Remove the A/C amplifier with connector.
b. Put a car into neutral.
c. Lift up the vehicle.
d. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
e. Measure voltage between terminal SPD of the A/C amplifier connector and body ground when the
wheel is turned slowly.

Voltage is generated intermittently.
