PERFORMANCE NOTE ‘The low tessitura for the women throughout “Cool Of The Day” may necessitate raising the performance pitch a minor or major second. Bb minor was chosen for the dark quality of the key itself, as well as to accommodate the timbre of a specific soloist. The solo passages may be performed by’one soloist or by alternating any combination of voice parts. I personally prefer a mezzo-soprano throughout.
