• Once the geometry is read in, SimSolid will display a dialog to prompt for connection
tolerances. The Automatic connections operation tries to create connections
between all parts using these tolerances as a guide.
• Once complete, you will see a list of all parts and connections in the Project tree.
• If there are parts that SimSolid cannot connect, a dialog will be displayed to notify
you and give you the option to suppress or delete the unconnected entities.
• Connections can be created manually as well – see icons in the connections
workbench toolbar

NOTE: A best practice is to make the gap and penetration tolerance just large enough to find connections but not too
large such that they overlap. Values that are too big can over constrain the model.

Immovable support: fixes translational displacements in all directions at a vertex, edge, face or spot
Slider support: fixes displacement normal to surface at face or spot. Displacements tangent to the surface are
unconstrained
Hinge support: allows free rotation about the axis of a cylindrical face. Cylindrical face may be concave or convex

1.d (see next slide). Otherwise, use a 1 mm tolerance for gap and
penetration in Automatic connections and go to Step 2.
