1. Computer Hardware Requirement
CPU i5 or above or PC of compatible model.
Basic spec:
 Main memory should be 4GB or more.
 Hard drive with 100GB capacity or more.
 Windows 10 Operating System or above.
 If you want to produce word report, the Office should be activated

( Version 2010 or above ).
 PC / Laptop is equipped with USB 2.0 or above interface.

3. Installation Guidance of GM4 Measurement
Software
 Install the driver provided by King Design, there are 2 files in total, they are
DAQ-18.1 and GM4-21.0.x.
 Select default value and click next step for all steps till the installation is
complete.
 Reboot the computer (PC).
 Go to C:\Program Files(x86)\GM4-x.x.x and change the permission to “Full

Control”: right click the folder GM4-x.x.x, and select “Content”, click
“Security”, select the User Name, click “Edit” and check “Full Control”, then
click OK to exit.
4. Measurement Software Functions
4.1 Booting Procedure
1. Boot the PC.
2. Go to C:\Program Files \GM4-21.0.x\ folder to run GM4-21.0.x.exe or
there is a shortcut icon on the desktop.
3. Left-click twice to access the main program.
4.2 Interpretation of Main Program Page:
The GM4 is fully PC-operated. Operator only needs to own basic PC operation
skills for using the software. The graphic and humanized operation design allows
for either keyboard or mouse input, easy for operation.
After accessing the GM4 main page, system is under the main function menu
waiting for operation. The operation mode in the main program is illustrated in
below:

4.3 Software Functions Interpretation:
4.3.1 Elapsed numbers
You can switch to the waveform in the different numbers via clicking the
left/right button below, and you can also type the number of the waveform you
want to check directly in the current numbers
4.3.2 Test buttons area

Click the Start ( F2 ) to test / Stop ( F3 ), there will be a reminder of “waiting for
triggering”.
4.3.3 Fuction buttons area

Linkage control ( Optional )
Linked with the machine, the height (mm) and release action can be set.
Setting
There are functions such as Save set, Function, Report, Properties, Calculator...
etc.
Save set
Test information
You can write down the test information, which will be displayed in the original
data and Word file of the time domain spectrum.
Save content
You can choose automatic or manual for the save mode. For automatic mode, the
test will be recorded everytime it is triggered, for manual mode, you have to cick
the “save” button by yourself, the save path can be switched to other paths, you
can fill in the information of test in the test context, and the information will be
saved in the Raw Data.
To select the archive path, click on the pre-archived folder, and then click to
select the folder.
Function
Channel
The Function includes Channel, Test Target, Filter, SRS_Analysis, SRS.
Test Target
Number of tests : The maximum total number of times is 100,000, and the
maximum time is 5000 ms. The time can be adjusted
manually/automatically. The automatic adjustment time is 6
times the time domain in the pulse parameter. The delay time
is defined as the position of the main wave. The default is
50%. The definition is in the middle.
Trigger : You can select any channel to trigger or select a channel. The trigger
mode includes percentage or acceleration. The percentage is based on
the acceleration in the pulse parameter. If you select a channel that is
not open, a reminder will pop up when you press OK.
Pulse Parameters : You can choose half-sine wave, trapezoidal wave, trailing edge
sawtooth wave, acceleration and time domain setting test
conditions.
Filter
Free switch function, selectable Auto/Manual filtering, the frequency of
automatic filtering is calculated according to the pulse parameters and multiplied
by the set magnification.
SRS_Analysis ( Optional )
Standard line : You can choose to open/close.
Octave : 1~128 can be selected.
Type : Composite, Primary, and Residual can be selected.
Analyzed Range : The minimum value depends on the time in the test setting, and
the maximum value is 20 k Hz.
Tolerance : Percentage/dB can be selected, the minimum is 1, the maximum is
100.
Q & ζ : Q range of 1 ~ 500, ζ range of 0.001 ~ 0.5.
SRS_Pyro ( Optional )
It can be edited directly on the table. Hz has editing restrictions. The frequency of
the previous stroke cannot be greater than the frequency of the next stroke, and a
prompt will pop up.
Octave: 1 ~ 128 can be selected.
Insert : To insert the default row in the previous stroke.
Delete : To delete the anti-yellow column.
Save : In order to save the file into the set up folder, you can enter the file name
yourself, with the extension .srs.
Read : To open the .srs file in set up.
Type : Composite, Primary, and Residual can be selected.
Q & ζ : Q range of 1 ~ 500, ζ range of 0.001 ~ 0.5.

Report
Word output is divided into 3 modes, One, Increment, and Customize.

․One
Select the Frame you want to output, and then Export the information on this
screen.
․Increment
Start : Start output from this pen.
Increment : Add this value to output data until the total number of tests at this
stage.
․Customize
Separate by commas, for example: 1,3,5-7, the data of 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 will be output.
Properties
Time Domain_Scale
The X/Y axis can select the manual/automatic display range, the maximum
magnification is the magnification product of the maximum time domain
spectrum, and the minimum is the magnification product of the minimum time
domain spectrum.
Units
You can choose acceleration units-g, m/s^2, and speed change rate units-m/s,
in/s, ft/s.
Plots
You can choose the background, grid, standard line, upper limit tolerance, lower
limit tolerance color and the thickness of each line.
FFT_Scale ( Optional )
X / Y axis-linear / logarithmic mode can be selected, manual / automatic display
range can be selected.
SRS_Analysis_Scale ( Optional )
SRS_Pyro_Scale ( Optional )
Calculator
Shock, take the following picture as an example, waveform mode: half-sine, click
the velocity change rate column, select the unit, enter acceleration and duration,
click the calculation button, and the velocity change rate will be calculated, this
value is just for your reference.
File
Read data : You can read all the log files in the folder, or test the log files
individually to review the measurement.
Save data : Press “ Save data ” at any time to save the measurement data ( the
storage path is the archive information setting path).
Cpk ( Optional )
Complex Process Capability index, there are two calculation methods.

Method 1 : Cpk = ( 1 - Ck ) * Cp
Ck = ( M – X ) / ( T / 2 )
Cp = T / ( 6 * σ )
M : Standard value.
X : Average of measured data.
T : Tolerance.
σ : Standard deviation.
Example : acceleration: 70.00 g, time domain: 2.00 ms.
Acceleration algorithm
Ck = ( 70 – 65.97909 ) / ( 14 / 2 ) = 0.574
Cp = 14 / ( 6 * 9.417636 ) = 0.248
Cpk = ( 1 – 0.574 ) * 0.248 = 0.105
Time domain algorithm

Ck = ( 2 – 1.6052 ) / ( 0.4 / 2 ) = 1.974
Cp = 0.4 / ( 6 * 1.116771 ) = 0.06
Cpk = ( 1 – 1.974 ) * 0.06 = 0.058
( If there is a negative value, the absolute value needs to be taken )
Method 2 : Cpk = min ( Cpl , Cpu )
Cpu : ( USL - X ) / ( 3 * σ )
Cpl : ( X - LSL ) / ( 3 * σ )
USL : Specification upper limit.
LSL : Specification lower limit.
X : Average of measured data.
σ : Standard deviation.
Example : acceleration: 70.00 g, time domain: 2.00 ms.
Acceleration algorithm
Cpu = ( 77.00 – 65.9790917 ) / ( 3 * 9.417636478 )
Cpl = ( 65.9790917 - 63.00 ) / ( 3 * 9.417636478 )
Cpk = min ( 0.105 , 0.39 )
Time domain algorithm
Cpu = ( 2.20 – 1.6052 ) / ( 3 * 1.116770607 )
Cpl = ( 1.6052 – 1.80 ) / ( 3 * 1.116770607 )
Cpk = min ( 0.058 , 0.178 )
( If there is a negative value, the absolute value needs to be taken )
4.3.4 Hotkey and Cursors function
Test Target
Cannot be adjusted during measurement.
Cursors
Respectively cursor, with Band cursor, mark, use the keyboard up and down keys
to change the displayed channel position.
Cursor : Display current curve name, X/Y axis value.
Band : Calculate the difference between two cursor points and move it at will.
Mark: This function can only be used when the cursor is turned on. Press the
mark to display the current value independently, and multiple marks can be used.
SRS_Analysis
Cannot be changed during measurement.
SRS_Pyro
Cannot be changed during measurement.
4.3.5 Graphical display area
Time domain
Display acceleration, time domain, Velocity change rate, filtering, maximum value,
minimum value, status... and other information. Among them, the status is
judged to be within the upper and lower tolerance lines when there is an open
standard line, that is, In Band, otherwise Out band.
FFT ( Optional )
Display the highest 3-point acceleration and correspond to its frequency.
Shock Response Spectrum_Analysis ( Optional )
Display maximum g value, maximum frequency, minimum g value, minimum

frequency, Q, 1/n Octave, tolerance, status. When the status is that there is an
open standard line, it is judged to be within the upper and lower tolerance lines,
which is In Band, otherwise Out band.
Shock Response Spectrum_Pyro ( Optional )
SRA : The percentage of the measured value higher than the standard value.
Upper limit : The percentage that exceeds the upper limit.
Lower limit : The percentage below the lower limit.
Battery ( Optional )
Peak : Starting from the set percentage of the measured peak value, the g value at
the next 3 ms is displayed.
Average : Starting from the set percentage of the measured peak value, the
average g value from the beginning to the next 3 ms is displayed.
4.4 Interpretation of measurement procedures
1. Turn on the power of the machine.
2. Boot the PC.
3. Connect the accelerometer with the machine without the interference with
other items, and also connect the accelerometer with the measurement system
GM4, the buttons in the right upper row are switch input buttons for the front
and rear panel, the buttons in the lower row are hardware filter, the following
picture are input in the front, you should press the button, after connecting
the accelerometer correctly, the indicator for accelerometer inspection on the
the top will be lit on.

4. After the PC is connected with GM4 via USB, the connection will be shown on
the PC graphic, this indicates that the connection is normal, and confirm that
the device is Dev1, you can enter NI MAX to modify the device position.
5. Open the software
6. Click channel setting, check to open the corresponding channel where you
install the accelerometer, enter the sensitivity, select Auto Invert for biasing,
choose IEPE coupling method.
7. Click the test target and enter the total number of times you want to test. The
time can be first filled in 50 ms ( adjusted according to the test time domain ),
the trigger setting first selects any channel, and the trigger channel first
selects the percentage mode ( the magnitude of the trigger depends on the
requirement ). The pulse parameter is switched on and off according to the
demand, and the acceleration and time domain are filled in according to the
demand.
8. Click filter, open it according to the needs, you can enter the value
automatically or munually.
9. Click SRS_Analysis ( optional ), open the standard line as required, enter the
minimum/maximum frequency value, Octave value, Q, ζ ( Zeta ), and tolerance
range.
10. Click SRS_Pyro ( optional ), directly edit the standard line and the upper and
lower tolerance, you can add and delete, enter the Octave value, Q, ζ ( Zeta ).
11. Click confirm button to go back to main program page.
12. Click save set button to fill in the information such as Test information, Save
content.
13.Click the Start button to wait for the singnal source
14. When you click to exit the program, a prompt will pop up.
4.5 Remaining function description
4.5.1 Screen shortcut function
Vernier : Press the cursor to move the Cursor line on the screen. When the
Cursor line is moved, the g value and ms value on the screen will be
displayed immediately (freely move).
Panning : Press to move the screen, you can move the whole screen freely.
Zoom in : Press the selection zoom button and then drag and select the area you
want to zoom in.
Unzoom : Pressing this key will immediately adjust the waveform to the full
screen (this function is also available when you double-click the left
mouse button on the screen).
Delete All Mark : Remove marked lines.
Vernier : Press the cursor to move the Cursor line on the screen. When the
Cursor line is moved, the g value and Hz value on the screen will be
displayed immediately (freely move).
Panning : Press to move the screen, you can move the whole screen freely.
Zoom in : Press the selection zoom button and then drag and select the area you
want to zoom in.
Unzoom : Pressing this key will immediately adjust the waveform to the full
screen (this function is also available when you double-click the left
mouse button on the screen).
X-axis scale : linear and logarithmic.
Y-axis scale : linear and logarithmic.
Delete All Mark : Remove marked lines.
The position of the red frame can be adjusted at will. Press the right mouse
button on the line twice to return to the original screen.
4.5.2 Serial number query
1. Click NI MAX or look for NI MAX.

2. Select NI USB-6210, Serial Number.
3. Click the drop-down menu, Function  License, and check GM401 Serial
Number.
4.5.3 Keyboard shortcuts
F2 : Start measurement.
F3 : Stop measurement.
Up : When the cursor is turned on, adjust the previous channel, which is only
valid for the open channel.
Down : When the cursor is turned on, adjust the next channel, which is only
valid for the open channel.
Left : Move the cursor one space to the left.
Right : Move the cursor one space to the right.
4.6 Simplified Chinese Setting Instructions
1. Enter the GM4 folder, and open the SC-x.x text file ( first installation ).
2. Click Save As.
3. Select ANSI as the encoding and directly overwrite the current file.
4.7 License
Click Function  License.
1. Click Import to import the provided file ( .lsn ) , and the screen will display the
currently activated items.
2. Manually type in the Licensed.
There are 3 states: Licensed ( permanent ), Evaluation ( trial ), Unlicensed
( expired ).
4.8 Linkage Setting ( Optional )
After the linkage control authorization code is entered correctly, close the
software and go to the device manager to check the COM location of the CP210x
USB. When the software is opened, the connection setting will pop up, and the
Compor setting is consistent with the COM of the device manager CP210x USB.
Baud Rate: 9600
Parity Bit: None
Data Bit: 8
Stop Bit: 1.0
When the main screen will display the linkage control options, you can change
the height, replace the rubber block, reset the platform... and other functions.
The total number of times in the parameter setting will be written during
execution.
4.9 Calibration system
Click Function  Import calibration.
Fill in the Serial Number and License to enter the calibration system.
There are two types of calibration file display : Not expired and Expired.
30 days before the expiration, a prompt message will pop up when the software is
opened.
A reminder message will pop up when it expires.
4.10 About
Show software version and company.
5. Troubleshooting
 File not found：
Solution:
Ensure that there are 5588C1378.bin 、 0043616C.crtn 、 C159AABB.bin 、
Comport.bin、Cpk.bin、Function.bin、GM4-EN-21.x.x.txt、GM4-SC-21.x.x.txt、
GM4-TC-21.x.x.txt 、 Hot key.bin 、 Language.inf 、 Properties.bin 、 Report
setting.bin、sample.doc、SRS.bin, 15 files in total in C:\Program Files \GM4-
x.x.x. If not, please go to D drive or run the installation disk provided by King
Design, run setup.exe in the folder Volume of the folder GM4 installer.
 You do not have the correct permissions for the file：
Solution:
If the Operating System is Win 7, after the installation process is complete,
change the permission of C:\Program Files(x86)\GM4-x.x.x folder to fully
accessable. (right-click this folder, select "Content" and click "Security", select
user name, press "Edit" and check "Full Control",after that, click OK to exit.)
 Device cannot be accessed：
Solution:
1. Ensure that the wiring connection of computer devices is correct.
2. Click the icon on desktop, and then click «Device and Interfaces», ensure
that NI USB-6210 is Dev1, if not, right-click NI USB-6210, select Rename and
rename it to Dev1.
3. Contact King Design maintenance staff.
 There is no error message during the measuring process, but no

measuring result is displayed on screen:
Solution:
1. Ensure if the accelerometer is connected and if the connecting cable is loose.
2. Is the accelerometer sensitivity set in accordance with the aforesaid standard?
3. Is the trigger level of the accelerometer higher than the maximum of the actual
signal
4. Is the display graphic switched to manual and the setting range doesn’t
include signal display reange.
 There are situations such as graphic flicker, continuous measurement
cycles, early stopping for the program during the measuring process:
Solution:
1. Is the accelerometer sensitivity set in accordance with the aforesaid standard ?

2. Is the trigger level of the accelerometer lower than the ripple maximum of
default collision signal ?
 G value and time of the waveform signal is different from the ideal value:
Solution:
1. Ensure if the accelerometer is connected and if the connecting cable is loose.
2. Is the filter frequency 5 times bigger than signal frequency ?
3. Is the test height setting correct ?
4. Is the rubber block correct ?
