Information

Exercise 4 & 5 offers many labs, and the student will be able to select his own.
All of the z/OSMF tasks in those exercises be run independently. So you may pick and choose
which ones you want to work with. You may not be able to run all the tasks due to lack of time.So
select the ones you have the most interest in, and that you may consider implementing in your own
installation.
Note also that you may perform the same exercises when back in your shop, on your own z/OSMF
installation, at your own pace.

This course is designed to provide students with the skills required to install and customize z/OSMF
(Management Facility), and use the functions and features that are provided by z/OSMF.
IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF) is a new product for z/OS that simplifies, optimize, and
modernize the z/OS system programmer experience.
z/OSMF delivers solutions in a task-oriented, web-browser-based user interface with integrated
user assistance.
In this course, we introduce z/OS Management Facility and its architecture, describe the
components that are necessary to run z/OSMF on z/OS.
In this course, students will also learn the installation and customization of z/OS Management
Facility, and will customize several system components to exploit the following z/OSMF functions:
• z/OSMF Software Management Manager
• Capacity Provisioning
• Classic (ISPF) Interface
• Incident Log
• Configuration Assistant for the z/OS Communications Server
• Workload Management
• System Status, Resource Monitoring
• SDSF
• z/OS Operator Console base function
• New Desktop interface for new user interface
• Import Manager task to import the applications into z/OSMF
• Sysplex management function
• Working with Workflows task and create workflows

Instructor qualifications
Instructors must possess all of the teaching skills that are required of a successful instructor. This
section describes the additional course-specific knowledge that instructors should have.

Instructor background
This section describes the technical and tool-specific knowledge that is necessary for instructors to
deliver the course successfully. If the instructor cannot address these topics and draw on industry
experience in doing so, the course might not be successful.
The instructor should have the following skills:
• z/OS systems programmer skills
• Before teaching this course, the instructor should have a good knowledge of z/OS at the level of
a z/OS system programmer, acquired on the job or through the z/OS curriculum.

Important

The instructor should also have run and tested this course and all its labs at least once before
teaching it!
• This is specially needed since ERC 2.0 is a major restructure of the course, and the setup and
configuration of z/OSMF in 2.3 is totally different from what it was in 2.1

This course is part of the IBM Education and Training Maintenance and Installation curriculum,
which includes the following course:
• OP25: z/OS UNIX System Services Implementation
• ESC7: z/OS V2R3 to z/OS V2R2 Update
• ESC8: z/OS V2R2 to z/OS V2R3 Update
• ESC9: z/OS V2R3 to z/OS V2R4 Update
Before attending this course, the students should have a good knowledge of z/OS at the level of a
z/OS system programmer, acquired on the job or through the z/OS curriculum, including skills
required to install and customize z/OS UNIX applications.
If the above prerequisites are not met, then the courses listed in the curriculum are recommended.

Be sure that you know and understand all of the target skills for the course before you
attempt delivery.
• Study the course materials.
Request the course materials, including the Instructor Guide, and request access to the
course labs at least two weeks before you are available to study them. Ensure that you
understand how to run the lab exercises and how to complete all lab setup steps that are
required.
• Review all of the training paths that refer to this course.
You should know what comes before and after this course so that you can verify that your
audience meets the prerequisites and sell your audience on the follow-on courses.
