Categories of Nonverbal Communication

1. Kinesics – Furrowing of eyebrows. This means you are confused.


2. Proxemics – Keeping a distance when talking to someone. It could be because you feel
comfortable talking to others if there is space between you. It could also be a sign for the
other person to keep their distance.
3. Haptics – Tapping someone’s back. You feel comfortable hugging other people you feel
close enough to.
4. Paralanguage – Having pauses during a speech. You want to make emphasis on the
words you are saying.
5. Posture & Appearance – Sitting straight. This is a show of respect and formality to
others.
6. Chronemics – Waiting for your friends even if the time is long. It shows that you value
your friends enough that you’re willing to wait for them.
7. Artifacts – Wearing a branded watch. It implies you are rich.
8. Language of Colors – Favorite color is red. Having a fiery attitude.
