TECHNIC WERE USED IN BAROQUE ART

The baroque style contained images that played with the interaction between the light and dark to
create dimly lit scenes that produced a dramatic atmosphere with the high-contrast between the focal
points of the art vs. background. This referred to as the chiaroscuro technique.

CHARACTIRISTIC:

It was during the baroque period that large, heavy brush strokes were first introduced. The baroque
artist used paint not simply by painting with it but by integrating it into a piece through the use of brush
strokes that conveyed an enormous sense of movement, energy, and tension.

Stages of baroque painting:

Step 1. Sketch the subject on a black or darkly toned surface

Step 2. layer lighter values

Step 3. Separate the lights and the darks

Step 4. Add complexity to the fleshy color and begin painting directly and opaquely in yhe areas hit by
the light only.

Step 5. Apply darker values if necessary

Conclusion:

In your own journey through painting, you might choose to work on black canvases like the baroque
painters or simply borrow from them when it is most suitable. We can always learn from the masters
that have come before us and apply their perfected techniques to our paintings.
