How To Discover The IP Address Assigned to a VAB1252

The default configuration for a VAB1252 with the Ethernet Option is to use DHCP to obtain an IP
address. To determine the IP address that has been assigned to the VAB1252, you may follow this
procedure.

This procedure requires Microsoft Windows XP, 2003 Server, Vista, Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 2008
Server.

1. Download the dsearch.exe utility from www.vespermarine.com/vab. Copy dsearch.exe to a

convenient location on your Windows computer.

2. Open a Microsoft Windows Command window by clicking on the START menu and entering
CMD in the Search Programs box. (This will vary depending on which version of Microsoft
Windows you are using).

3. Type the command ipconfig and determine your own IP address. See #1 in the screen
shown on the following page.

4. Change your directory to the folder where you copied the dsearch utility. For example:
cd c:/users/fred/desktop and then enter this command: dsearch your-ip-address.
Substitute your-ip-address as shown in #2 on the following page.

5. Wait a few seconds and your VAB1252 should be located. The command will repeat your own
IP address first followed by the VAB1252. You can ignore the first line and will find the IP
address of the VAB1252 on the subsequent line (#3 in the screen below).

6. If the command cannot locate the VAB1252 (only your own IP address is shown) then ensure
the VAB1252 is plugged into your network and switched on. The dsearch command may only
work on your local area network as it makes use of network broadcasts that may be filtered.
