RESUMEN
Una incorrecta gestión ambiental de la minería conlleva a una falta de control de los
contaminantes que deriva en la pérdida del valor de los suelos, ya sea por desinterés o el
querer escatimar en gastos para remediar dichos suelos. En la actualidad, las tecnologías
aplicadas para la remediación de suelos generalmente son técnicas fisicoquímicas que tienen
un alto costo de inversión y requieren de la destrucción de propiedades edáficas. Sin
embargo, la biorremediación es una nueva tecnología sostenible que degrada los
contaminantes almacenados en los suelos, los cuales dejan de ser una amenaza para los seres
humanos, plantas y animales. Existen tres tipos de biorremediaciones: la microbiana, la
fitorremediación y la degradación enzimática, de las cuales tomamos como objeto de estudio
las dos primeras; la biorremediación microbiana y la fitorremediación. El objetivo de nuestro
proyecto de investigación se basa en poder determinar cuál de esas dos técnicas es la más
eficiente al momento de ser aplicadas en los suelos contaminados por residuos mineros. El
método a utilizar para cumplir el objetivo parte de realizar revisiones bibliográficas de las dos
técnicas de biorremediación empleadas y aplicadas en diferentes lugares, para luego realizar
las comparaciones respectivas, relacionado a los resultados y conclusiones que obtuvieron los
diferentes autores sobre la estimación del grado de efectividad al ser llevadas a la
experimentación. Para terminar, en los resultados analíticos y comparativos se pudo
determinar que la biorremediación es la que más desarrolla efectividad al ser aplicada sobre
suelos altamente contaminados por metales pesados a diferencia de la fitorremediación que
aún resulta tener desventajas por el lento proceso de reacción sin estimulación y porque
muchas de las plantas que son más destacables para estas acciones no logran adaptarse a los
diferentes factores (clima, temperatura, humedad, etc.) presentes en las zonas donde se
encuentra la contaminación de suelos.

1 INTRODUCCIÓN
El desarrollo de las actividades mineras incontrolables y presionadas por la
industrialización ha provocado la contaminación del aire ,suelo ,agua y esto a la vez afecta
directamente a todos los ecosistemas y a los seres humanos que son parte de ellos, en
consecuencia la situación ambiental que vivimos y la que podríamos vivir a futuro es muy
preocupante por lo que estudiantes, profesionales y autoridades estamos en busca de
soluciones o maneras efectivas para remediar lo que nuestra propia acción provocamos, por
esto ante tal suceso se buscan tratamientos de residuos mineros y esto a la vez genera un
problema pues estos tratamientos están asociados a recursos económicos como también a la
efectividad de las mismas. Así para buscar soluciones el interés se fue a la biorremediación ,
este método ayuda efectivamente en la degradación de los contaminantes y a la
desintoxicación del suelo (Agrawal & Verma, 2020).Por lo tanto ante la cantidad de fuentes
biológicas se busca la mejor fuente de biorremediación conocidas entre la biorremediación
microbiana y la fitorremediación ante el cual planteamos ¿Qué fuente biológica tienen las
técnicas de biorremediación de suelos más efectiva para degradar metales pesados generados
por las industrias mineras?. Ante esto el objetivo de nuestra investigación es determinar,
mediante un análisis bibliográfico, la técnica de biorremediación de suelos más eficaz que
permita degradar contaminantes generados por las industrias mineras. Saber cuál es la forma
más efectiva implica analizar el rendimiento frente a los contaminantes metálicos de la
minería que ya han sido realizados por diferentes estudios en diferentes países.
Adams, R. et al (1999, pp. 161 - 162) nos relatan que la biorremediación fue usada en
una forma no refinada durante muchos años por la industria petrolera de los Estados Unidos.
Se manifestó a partir del conocimiento empírico de los operadores de las refinerías del
petróleo, quienes desecharon los lodos de los separadores tipo API (Instituto Americano del
Petróleo) y otros residuos aceitosos en forma de capa delgada sobre la parte superior del
suelo en un sitio próximo a la refinería. Esta técnica, llamada “landfarming” (granjeo) fue
usada por mucho tiempo sin comprender la causa de los procesos de degradación de los
lodos. Posteriormente fue entendida de una manera científica, dado que académicos e
industriales comprobaron que algunos microorganismos, sobre todo algunas bacterias,
podrían utilizar los hidrocarburos del petróleo como alimento y fuente de energía. Luego,
investigaciones demostraron que estos microorganismos eran los principales responsables de
la descomposición de aceites en el suelo de los “landfarm”. El tratamiento de las aguas
residuales municipales por el método de lodos activados fue otro uso importante de la
biotecnología en aplicaciones de biorremediación. Este tratamiento de lodos activos ha sido
una gran herramienta de la biotecnología ambiental para el control de la contaminación del
ambiente acuático. Del mismo modo, la estabilización aerobia de residuos sólidos orgánicos
mediante el compostaje tiene una larga historia de uso. Además, los microorganismos y
enzimas se han utilizado con éxito en aplicaciones diversas de biorremediación, como el
tratamiento eficaz y controlado de nitrato y fosfato de las aguas residuales. Los
microorganismos y las enzimas han sido el foco principal de los esfuerzos para mejorar la
capacidad de biorremediación, asimismo, el uso de las plantas superiores en fitorremediación
es un área importante de desarrollo.

3 MARCO TEÓRICO
La presente investigación “Evaluación de técnicas de biorremediación para suelos
contaminados por industrias mineras: una revisión bibliográfica” se formuló una pregunta
¿Qué técnica de biorremediación de suelos es más efectiva para degradar metales pesados,
contaminantes generados por las industrias mineras? la cual se determinará, mediante un
análisis bibliográfico, la técnica de biorremediación de suelos más eficaz que permita
degradar contaminantes generados por las industrias mineras. Ante ello, se hará primero una
revisión de la literatura correspondiente.
Según Zhang et al., (2020) la remediación se puede clasificar en dos principales tipos:

fisicoquímicas, se les atribuye eficacia con lo que refiere al tiempo, pero puede incurrir en
que no considere el daño que este tipo de técnica pueda ocasionar al ecosistema adyacente
(Achal et al., 2012). Como también el costo que esta pueda facturar. Dentro de este tipo de
técnicas se puede encontrar la remediación electrocinética, lavado de suelos, encapsulación,
ósmosis inversa, intercambio iónico, reducción u oxidación entre otras (Xia et al., 2019).
Según Nouri et al., (2017), estos dos hechos que podrían ocurrir ante la aplicación de las
técnicas fisicoquímicas, para las industrias, es el costo lo que puede generar cierta
incertidumbre en relación a los objetivos que la empresa desea lograr.
Ante lo descrito, se puede citar como ejemplo, para la remediación de suelos con el
elemento mercurio, es mejor la aplicación de estos dos tipos de técnicas: las fisicoquímicas,
como la estabilización/solidificación, el lavado de suelos entre otras como también la
fitoestabilización, fitoextracción y fitovolatilización. (Wang et al. 2012).
El uso de esta técnica ex situ en particular se está considerando cada vez más debido a
sus características constructivas, incluida la rentabilidad, que permite una biodegradación
efectiva con la condición de que los nutrientes, la temperatura y la aireación estén
adecuadamente controlados (Whelan et al. 2015).
Azubuike, C. et al. (2016), nos dicen que estas técnicas involucran al tratamiento de
sustancias contaminadas en el lugar de la contaminación. Y a diferencia de la in situ esta no
necesita de la excavación; por lo tanto, se acompaña de poca o ninguna alteración de la
estructura del suelo. Podría pensarse que estas técnicas deberían ser menos costosas en
comparación con las técnicas de biorremediación ex situ, debido a que se pretende escatimar
en costos adicionales para el desarrollo de excavación; no obstante, el costo del diseño y la
instalación in situ de algunos equipos sofisticados para mejorar las actividades microbianas
durante la biorremediación es una preocupación importante. A partir de ello se ha informado
que las técnicas de biorremediación in situ se han utilizado con éxito para tratar disolventes
clorados, tintes, metales pesados y sitios contaminados por hidrocarburos (Folch et al. 2013;
Kim et al. 2014; Frascari et al. 2015; Roy et al. 2015). Las técnicas de biorremediación in situ

al. 2015). Algo que es muy importante recordar, es que en comparación con las técnicas de
biorremediación ex situ, la porosidad del suelo influye fuertemente en la aplicación de la
biorremediación in situ a cualquier sitio contaminado.
Investigación litoclean & remediación de suelos Perú (2021), menciona que este tipo
de biorremediación se intenta utilizar microorganismos, como bacterias, para reparar el
subsuelo. Se ha detectado que esta técnica llega a ser efectiva en el tratamiento de

contaminantes orgánicos, incluyendo al petróleo. En la aplicación las bacterias cumplen el
papel de eliminar las sustancias químicas dañinas, pero es necesario que el suelo y las aguas
tratadas tengan la temperatura, los nutrientes y la cantidad de oxígeno apropiados que
permitan a los microorganismos crecer, multiplicarse y asimilar más contaminantes. Por ello,
es importante un diseño adecuado del sistema, previo a su implementación in situ.
Ma, Y. et al. (2011), mencionan que existen diferentes formas de que las bacterias o
microorganismos participen en el crecimiento de las plantas y que a la vez les ofrezcan tener
propiedades únicas, como lo es la absorción de metales pesados.
Natarajan, S. et al. (2011) muestran que al hacer uso de la planta P. vittata, este

lograba reducir el As en el agua subterránea de 140 a <10 g / L en 8 semanas en el Ciclo1.
Demostrando que P. vittata fue eficaz para eliminar el arsénico del agua subterránea
contaminada en todos los tanques con helechos.

Se puede concluir entonces que no existe una técnica de biorremediación única que
puede ser efectiva, todo lo contrario, se podría afirmar que es necesario el trabajo en
conjunto, ya sea fitorremediación con microbios, fitorremediación con técnicas de
remediación o inclusive los 3 en conjunto. Ante ello, se observa aquí combinaciones que
tienen un único objetivo: lograr el mayor grado de remediación de los suelos.
