1. We wear light coloured cotton clothes in summer.
Reason – As they do not absorb heat and keep us cool.
2. Naphthalene balls are used to protect silk and woolen clothes.
Reason – As they protect the silk and woolen clothes from pests like moth and silverfish.
3. Clothes should be sun dried after washing.
Reason – Sun drying helps in making the clothes germ-free.

1. What is spinning?
Ans. Spinning is a process by which raw fibre strands are twisted in a machine to form yarns.
Now-a-days, hi-tech machines are being used in textile factories for spinning.

2. How can we take care of our clothes? Explain briefly.


Ans. We can take good care of our clothes by the following ways-
a) We should wash our clothes regularly using good quality detergent or soap.
b) We must sun-dry our clothes, as it helps in making them germ – free.
c) We should always store our clothes in a clean and dry cupboard.

3. What are natural fibres? How are they different from synthetic fibres?
Ans. Fibres that are obtained from plants or animals are called natural fibres. Eg. Silk, wool.
Whereas fibres that are made by man using chemicals are called synthetic fibres. Eg. Nylon,
Polyester.

4. What is weaving? How is it done?


Ans. Weaving is a process by which yarns or threads are interlaced to form a fabric. Weaving
is done on machines called the looms.
Looms are of two type handloom and power loom.
