reduce costs and/or by improving products. The VE increases value by reducing cost
while retaining performance and customer satisfaction. This means that improving the
value either has to increase functionality or reduce cost or both. Its objectives are to
improve quality, minimize total ownership costs and decrease construction time.

3. Application of the techniques on your working title

Function analysis can be carried out by reducing the cost of construction for the port
handling systems. First is by identifying the product or service, which is the port
handling system. Next is through obtaining records and information regarding the cargo
handling system. The system can be improved by having the queue time and length
shortened or by decongesting the port. Construction cost for the improvements can be
pricey. Analyzing every part of the system and determining its efficiency and need to
improve is vital. Alternatives for the improvement, once the efficiency of the system is
evaluated, can be through construction of additional berth, addition of cargo handling
cranes, or inclusion of additional port space. Cost of construction for the said
alternatives will then be compared, through which the least cost that can provide the
most output will be selected.
