Importance of Oyster

Oyster are important component of the living ecosystem. The most widely known
ecological function of oyster is that they filter the water. They believed that even a
single healthy oyster can filter 50 gallons of water a day. In the process, they can
remove excessive nitrogen and phosphorus pollution. Another benefit that we can get
from oyster is that they can create habitat for hundreds of marine species. The
presence of their shells creates a hard surface on the bottom that offers home to other
organisms. Oyster reefs also provide shelter and spawning areas for swimming
species, as well as protection of shorelines from wave erosion. Lastly, oyster boost the
economy and provides food. Oysters provide a market for food and a way of life for
many watermen and aqua culturists. They make a living off oysters, and their work
brings oysters to your table at home or local restaurants. Some of those restaurants
even recycle their shells so they can be reused for future oysters, bringing the process
full circle.

Problem that address by the study

The major problems involved during the actual study are follows; (1) High Tides
(2) Unavailability of Oysters in some growing practices in a reason that oysters usually
reach maturity in one year (3) the unavailability of measuring instruments and; (4) the
area itself.

Significance of our Study

This study will be undertaken to find out the two reasons. First, to identify
different growing practices or methods used by oyster growers. Second, it also aims to
determine which is the best growing practices or method can be used to have a good
quality of oysters.
Moreover, this study could be an avenue of providing information to our
fellowmen most especially to oyster growers.
