Introduction

Wireless technology has been advancing steadily since the introduction of the first
generation wireless communication system, from providing basic coverage to
meeting increasingly complex demands. Next-generation wireless networks are
expected to support extremely high data rates and radically new applications, which
require a new wireless radio technology paradigm.

The challenge is making the radio intelligent learner and decisions maker. Machine
learning ML in general offers efficient ways to get knowledge from spectrum data.
Particularly Deep Learning DL profited from recent advancements in processing
resources and algorithmic approaches of ML, it has found success in carrying out a
variety of wireless communication tasks like signal detection, spectrum sensing,
and waveform creation.

A new branch of research known as Adversarial Machine Learning AML has

emerged as a result of the high ML/DL susceptibility of manipulations (smart
attacks). Although research on AML in the field of wireless communications is still
in its early stages, it has been widely investigated in other data domains including
Computer Vision CV and Natural Language Processing NLP.

This report will discuss the ML/DL applications for the new radio communication
systems, the machine learning solutions for security aspects and the adversarial
attacks with the defense strategies based on the research literature.
