INTRODUCTION and OVERVIEW

What is PWeDe?

PWeDe is an on the job training program for PWDs that will help them to enhance their
skills and find a suitable job for them. In society, PWDs are having a hard time finding jobs
because their disabilities hinder them from showing their ability, they also think that they
are a burden to other people. Some discriminate against them and say negative comments
about their disability. So this program helps them to find an accessible work place for
PWDs.

PWeDe coming from the word “pwede” or “possible” PWDs still can find a job despite the
barrier. This program aims to see possibilities rather than disabilities.

Enhancing Skills. The program was developed based on the information on the PWDs
experiencing difficulty in working because of the disability. It recognizes that a lot of
PWDs are experiencing difficulty in showing their full capability. However, it also seeks
to recognize PWDs' full potential so they can find a job that is suitable for them.

Accessible Workplace Environment. The program was developed to initiate PWDs to

have an accessible workplace environment where they wouldn't feel that they are a
burden to other people. It recognizes that a lot of PWDs are using wheelchairs, immune
to disease. However, it also seeks to recognize PWDs accessibility to transportation,
buildings and healthcare information

Awareness and Equal Life. The program was developed based on the information on
the PWDs that are experiencing discrimination in work because of their disability. It
recognizes that a lot of PWDs are not given the chance to prove themselves that leads to
inequality. However, it also seeks to recognize PWDs to help them raise awareness and
guide them to ensure a good and equal life for them.

Provide Mental Support. The program was developed to initiate PWDs to have mental
support like counseling to give them encouragement. It recognized that a lot of PWDs
experience low self-esteem when they are applying for a job, they always worry about
what other people think. However, it also seeks to recognize PWDs to help them build up
their confidence and give them hope that they can surpass it all.

1
Program Framework

PWeDe: An On the Job Training for PWDs assumes that there are struggles in the
workplace when you are a person with disabilities. Some of it depends on the specific
disability such as riding on a wheelchair, being deaf, being mentally ill and many others.
The PWeDe program infer that the challenging experiences of the PWDs in their
workplace are: a.) difficulty with transportation b.) thinking that they are burden to
people c.) trapped in poverty d.) lack of education e.) easily distracted f.) slow
performance

Enumerating those struggles that the PWDs are experiencing, the PWedE program
assumes that an on the job training program will help persons with disabilities find a
safe job that can sustain their needs. Literature suggests that these factors can be a
possible solutions 1) Accessibility to transportation, buildings and healthcare 2) Mental
support such as giving them encouragement and building up confidence 3)
workshops/skills enhancement 4) Productive activities 5) Financial support 6) Education

2
Program Goals

The overall goal of PWeDE is to help PWDs by harnessing their strengths and enhancing
skills to help them to find a suitable job for them. PWDs who have undergone the
entire program,should be able to:

1. Access their benefits

2. Manage their unwanted thoughts and feelings
3. Manage to concentrate on certain tasks that will lead to normal pace performance
4. Identify their goals that will help them financially
5. Identify skills that will help to find job
6. Identify talents and creativity of people with disability

3
Rationale and Overview of Modules:

Mental Support - It is assumed that PWDs are experiencing low self-esteem when it
comes to interviews, they also think that they are a burden to other people and they also
think what people will think of them. They are experiencing managing their unwanted
thoughts and feelings. This module aims to help them manage their thoughts and feelings
that will help them build up their confidence and give them hope and encouragement.

Productive Activities - It is assumed that PWDs are having a difficulty in concentrating

on a certain task and having a slow speed of performance in work that is why a lot of
companies in the Philippines are not accepting PWDs in their company but this module
aims to give activities and task that will surely help PWDs to focused on a certain task
that will lead them to normal-fast pace of performance.

Education - It assumed that a lot of PWDs didn’t finish their studies. This module aims
Making opportunities available for continuous learning for the PWDs in collaboration
with DepEd and non-governmental organizations. Skill - based and knowledge training
are offered to make preparations for reintegration into society and assisted living.

Financial Support - Fundraising “Kasaklay Fund Raising Program”. A financial

assistance for pwds to start their own business. Since not all pwds can work in industrial
companies, maybe working from their homes is also one of the best solutions. The money
collected from the funds will be fairly distributed to those pwds who are incapable of
heavy works. Ex. Sari-sari store, gulayan, bigasan. “PWede Store“ A program which
aims to help those talented pwds sell their crafts. Pwds uses other ways to earn
money by doing handmade crafts but some only sell their items for a small amount
which is not enough for their needs. Handmade crafts are hard to make and it takes
time to finish so we wanted to value their works by helping them sell through
different platforms.

Enhancing Skills - It assumed that PWDs are afraid to show their full capabilities and
full potential, there are many PWDs that are good in different skills but there’s no
confidence because they are not doing it for a long time but this module aims to help
them to enhance the skills that they are good at back then or they can simply choose
another skill that will surely help them in applying for a job.

Accessibility - It is assumed that PWDs are hesitating to apply for a job in a company
because they are having difficulty in transportation, buildings and even healthcare. THis

4
module aims to help PWDs to find an accessible workplace environment for PWDs, give
them service that can pass by near their house and will drop off them back and forth and
lastly is giving access to the benefits that they should enjoy.

Who is PWeDe for?

PWeDe is targeted toward persons with disabilities who are experiencing struggles in
their workplace that can result in them to withdraw and just don't work anymore which
can lead them also to further poverty. But through the help of different services, training
and guidance they can now find a job that is suitable and safe for them. The target Pwds
of our program are the following: physically disabled - visually impaired -hearing
impaired -orthopaedically disabled -other physical disabilities ( cleft palate, harelip)
Mentally disabled -mentally retarted -autistic -adhd -many more..

When should PWeDe be delivered?

The pwede program aims to provide a sustainable and healthy workplaces for persons
with disabilities. The program can be performed when pwds express their need for skills
so they can be accepted for jobs. It intended to provide training and services for all the
pwds who struggled looking for jobs. The program can be conducted at any moment,
next week, months or even the next few years.

Where should PWeDe be implemented?

The program can be facilitated in any different places such as houses when the services
are going to pick up the PWDs off to their work, in their workplace, schools, hospitals,
barangays, municipal and others as long as the participants are assured that they are
safe and comfortable. The location must be also accessible so it won't be difficult for
them to go. But since covid 19 is still a threat to our health the program can also be
performed online via gmeet or zoom.

How should PWeDe be delivered?

Since the PWedE program focuses on job training for PWDs, it is better to start providing
them webinars so they can have knowledge about the program. In every session of the
PWeDe program we will make sure they can gain skills for them to practice and apply.

5
Some challenges may happen during the program including money for transportation,
lack of confidence, etc. so we also offered to deliver it online. The ideal delivery session
of the program is at least 4-8 sessions for about 2hrs to 3hrs with 4-6 participants.

APPENDIX C

Brief Meditation

1. Find a quiet space. Make sure there is nothing to disturb you before you start
meditation. Turn your phone on silent and go into a room away from others.
2. Sit in a comfortable position. You can sit on top of a cushion or blanket, on the
floor or in a chair. Sit upright, but don't tense up — your body should feel relaxed.
3. Breathe gently. Focus your attention on each inhale and exhale. Alternatively,
you can begin with a body scan: focus on each part of the body, down from your
toes and up to your head, pausing to notice the sensations.
4. Let distractions come and go. If your mind wanders, acknowledge the thought
that has distracted you, but do not dwell on it. Then, gently bring your attention
back to your breathing. Getting distracted when meditating is inevitable and one
of the biggest worries for beginners — but learning how to manage distraction is a
vital part of the process.
