FDTH 9 ESCHATOLOGY

1. How do you describe traditional eschatology as futuristic. How do you contrast such
futuristic eschatology with the contemporary non-futuristic eschatology?

- Traditional eschatology, as a futuristic frame of mind, looks for the future for the great
day of the lord, of which the last events of the present age will occur. It addresses the
question of what will happen when a human being dies. On the other hand, Contemporary
non-futuristic eschatology diminishes Christian hope for life after death. This type of
eschatology, which unfolds, seeks by every means to cast into oblivion death and those
questions that are inevitably linked with it.

2. How would you describe heaven if you are going to teach it to young children?

- You may not be able to directly tell what heaven is unless you first tell them how to get
there. Never expect that kids under the age of 8 or even 10 sometimes will understand
what death is. So, for you to explain heaven, explain to them the way to enter but use
words that should coincide with what they really mean. My last take is to quote Bible
verses that tickle a child's mind if used correctly. For example, in Revelation 21:4, He
will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning,
wailing or pain; the old order has passed away. Try using your own words like you ""no
one will ever cry in heaven, and everyone is always happy." Remember, children always
tend to choose what makes them happy.

3. Do you believe in the eternity of hell? Would it not be contradictory with our faith in a
merciful God?

- I do believe in the eternity of hell, but it cannot also be denied that some will question
God’s mercy and compassion. It won’t contradict God's mercy already and that he had
given us ways to avoid hell. Again, the simple defense I can give is that torture was
meant for the angels who, in their perfect being, defied God and for those who were
dragged by sin, which is the most hated thing by God. God is merciful but also just to
hate and punish evil.
