Self Decisions, Legal Framework and Human Rights in Abortion as a Women

Right.

Abortion is one of the most divisive topics in the world today. According to

the Oxford Dictionary, it is defined as “the interruption of the deliberate

termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28

weeks of pregnancy”. It means 73 million, of abortions per year, with different

sceneries. During the following essay, the most remarkable borderlines around

this controversial topic, are going to be develop with a neutral vision, beyond any

emotion and focused in finding a set of parameters in where abortion can be

justified as a life interruption.

Women now have the option to decide whether to end a baby's life, there

are several reasons that make abortions legal, such as; unwanted pregnancy,

sexual abuse, pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, birth control and to prevent

the birth of a child born with birth defects or serious medical conditions that could

endanger the health of the child. The BBC, in a recent article, shares a list about

Latin America countries and abortion framework. In Paraguay, Venezuela,

Guatemala, Perú y Costa Rica, these regulations apply with some of restrictions.

Other countries, for instance: El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, have forbidden

abortion in all cases. This inequality shows the need to find a balance, a certain

number of prerequisites and a deeper analysis of when this process is legal or not.

In Panama abortion is legal when violation, deformation or mother sickness

occur. However, the context that surrounds most of the pregnancies with desires of

abortion is violence. With a clear example of this, is the recent abuse of 8 years old

pregnant child, abused by a family member. And according to research, made by

FIGO, the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics: "Ensuring the

comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls

means prioritizing, measures that ensure access and improve the quality of care,

uphold access to sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents, and

reduce the serious impact of unsafe abortion. These measures also aim to ensure

that preventable maternal mortality and disability is treated as an issue of public

health and social justice, until it is eradicated." Abortion is not only the process

insitu, but the previous education to the society, especially in this country.
