COST CONSIDERATIONS

FINAL TERM HOMEWORK

RESEARCHER:

CANTILANG, KHILE KID

There are a lot to put into consideration when cutting off design proposals suited for

the budget provided for the services and construction. Although there are certain examples

that are presented in the class modules such as; simplicity in design and detailing, planning

an open floor plan, clever material choices and sourcing, cutting down labor cost, and

technology utilization, there are also other aspects where costs can be cut smaller.

LOCATION OF SOURCE MATERIALS

Local materials are often the most sustainable materials for the building

construction and design, they use less gas sometimes no shipping gas pollution produced

because it is locally produced. The nearest probable local materials are our vernacular

materials, these are materials that have less processing and have the least costs.

RETURN OF INVESTMENT

Sometimes we can sacrifice having higher building construction costs at the expense

of having more efficient building running costs, or when the building/s have started to run.

We see in the short term, the costs for the construction of an highly efficient building is high

but have low costs for building operation, maintenance and etcetera. This becomes a

sustainable way for the owner and benefits everyone, because highly efficient buildings are

often more environment friendlier than low-cost construction.

MAINTENANCE

The maintenance of materials in building construction may seem like small aspect,

but it actually accumulates more costs in the long run because of the labor you buy to apply

maintenance for the materials and planning. A smart move for planning including

considerations on maintenance will significantly affect the costs of building operations and

even in construction.
