Lesson Plan (Speaking and written discourse)

Date: June 24, 2021 Language level: Intermediate (B1) High School No. of Ss: 18 Total time: 60 mins.

Objectives: Learners will be better able to practice the productive skills in the language, speaking and writing, through different activities based around the topic
of travelling.

Topic: Travelling

Assumed knowledge: Students possess a wide range of vocabulary and knowledge on different tenses. Additionally, students have an idea on how to write
different texts.

Anticipated problems: . Students may struggle with the composition of the essay as well as giving feedback to his/her partner.

Proposed solutions: There will be a PPP which is focused on how to write an essay, this will be done before the students carry out the activity. Moreover, the
teacher will assist students while they are doing peer feedback.

T: Today we are going to talk about something we all like doing during holidays. What do
you think it is about? Tell me.
Ss: I like visiting my family.
T: Ok, I think we all agree with you. Thank you for sharing. Any other ideas?
Ss: I like going to the beach.
T: Yes, and what do we do to get to the beach or to visit our family who lives away?
Ss: We travel.
T: Correct, on holidays we usually travel to other places. Now, I want you to think about
your last vacation. When and where did you travel to? Did you like the place you visited?
I will give you a few minutes to think about it.

*T gives 2 minutes so that students can reflect on what he/she asked previously.

T: Ok, guys. Now, I want you to talk to the person who is next to you and tell him/her
about your last vacation. Do you remember the two questions we are going to discuss?
S: When and where we traveled, also if we liked the place or not.
T: Yes, thank you. You can start talking to your partner. You have 4 minutes.

T walks around the classroom to monitor the activity and checks if students are
talking and using the target language.

T: Time is up, guys. Does someone want to share what his or her partner told you?
Ss: Me, teacher.
T: Thank you. Go ahead.
Ss: My partner traveled to Mexico six months ago. He liked the places he visited
because the food was delicious.
T: That sounds great. Thank you for sharing. (T continues showing the PPP to elicit
answers from the students). Let 's continue. What is the place in the picture?
Ss: The Eiffel Tower.
T: Very good, and where is it located?
Ss: In France, Paris.
T: Well done, let’s see another one. Does anyone know?
Ss: The Great Wall of China.
T: Well done. Let’s see the last picture. Can someone tell me?
Ss: Giza pyramids in Egypt.
T: Yes, very good guys. Have you ever traveled to one of these places?
Ss: No, teacher.
T: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? Think about it.
Ss: Canada, USA, Colombia, Peru, Morocco, Argentina, Asia.

While teaching T moves to the following stage. T projects a PPP and explains how to write an T 15 min
essay to the students.

T: Okay guys, Do you know what an essay is?


Ss: Yes, teacher! is a type of writing.
T: OK. Do you know how to write one?
Ss: Yes/No, teacher!
T: No worries guys! I’m going to explain to you how to write one. Please take your
notebooks and write down the information to be presented.

T: Right guys, now that you have thought and discussed with your partners about the S 15 min
places, I’m going to give you a handout in which you are going to write your draft essay.
You have 15 min to do it. We’ll check later.

When SS finished to do the activity, T give them a Handout 2 and explain What 10 min
they have to do

T: Now, you have to exchange your draft with other student and after you read your
partner's writing draft give feedback to his/her work with the following guidelines
(Handout 2)
T: You should have written around 220-260 words. And the topic is "Places you have
never been to. 'Explain why you are moving there". You have 10 min.
Ss: yes teacher!
T. This is going to be individual, but you can ask me if you need some help
Ss: Yes, Teacher
T: So, Are you going to do it in teams?
Ss: No teacher!, it individual
T: Excellent! I am going to walk around the classroom if you need help, please raise
your hand and I will go.
Ss: Ok!

When the time is over T explain that they have to check his/her handout and make
the corrections. Finally tomorrow bring the essay with the correction.

Post- teaching T explains the last activity, in which Ss are going to express the advantages and 10 min
disadvantages of moving to another place.

In the discussion the Ss have to clearly show how to express their viewpoints as
well as to show respect to the other opinions of students.

T: Now, our last activity is a discussion, and we have to think about the pros and cons
about Travelling.
T: you have 2 min to think about that, and then you have to share your opinion. Is that
OK?
Ss: ¡Yes Teacher!
After the time, T asks a Ss to start with the activity, T has to pay attention about
how the Ss express and share their opinion, T takes note of feedback at the end of
the activity.
