TSUNAMI:

A tsunami is a huge wave that develops when the Earth's crust, or outer layer, moves, moving
ocean water. A tsunami might be brought on, for instance, by an oceanic volcano or an
earthquake. The Japanese word tsunami, which combines the words "Tsu" (harbor) and
"nami,"(wave) means "harbor wave".
A significant portion of the Earth's crust may be pushed upward or move sideways during an
earthquake that occurs in the ocean. The water over a big portion of the Earth is displaces, or
takes up the space where the water once filled. What happens to the water then? As a result of
the earthquake, waves are produced.
A tsunami can also be the cause of a volcanic eruption in the ocean. The water surrounding the
volcano is moved by the lava coming out of it. A large wave may form from that water.
EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN:
W – warning. Before the tsunami will strike you will feel a long or strong earthquake, see an
unexpected rise or fall of the ocean, and hear a loud roar like a jet or train from the ocean.
A – alert. After getting a warning, go immediately to high ground and be alert on what will
happen next.
V – view. Never attempt to watch an approaching tsunami.
E – evacuate. DO NOT wait for tsunami warnings and evacuation orders.
