SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

5.1 SUMMARY

The broad objective of this study is to examine the local government and

service delivery: the provision of primary education in Bwari Local Government,

Abuja. The study determined if formal education has any significant impact on the

socio-economic development of communities in Bwari Local Government. The

study investigated the extent at which formal education has developed in Bwari

Local Government. It ascertained formal education has helped in human

development of communities in Bwari Local Government and determed if there is

enough infrastructural development in Bwari Local Government as a result of

formal education.

The study adopted the survey descriptive research design and with the aid

of convenience sampling method, the researcher purposively selected one hundred

and fifty (150) participant for the study. Self- structure questionnaire was issued to

the respondent of which one hundred forty-one (141) was retrieved and validated

for the study. Data was analyzed using simple percentage, presented in frequencies
and tables. Hypothesis test was conducted using Chi-Square Statistical Package for

the Social Sciences (SPSS v.26).

5.2 CONCLUSION

Education is an important key of achieving a sustainable national

development. For a state or society to achieve a sustainable national development,

the quality of its education should be improved. This paper attempts to explain the

concept of education, the concept of sustainable national development and

relationship between education and sustainable national development. Education

has been seen as the greatest force that can be used to bring about changes. Thus it

is the greatest investment a nation can make for the development of its economic,

sociological and human resources is that of education.

Findings of the study reveal that formal education has a significant impact

on the socio-economic development of communities in Bwari Local Government.

More so, formal education has a significant impact on human and infrastructural

development of communities in Bwari Local Government.

5.3 RECOMMENDATION

From the findings of the study, the following recommendation were made:

 Government should continue the contribution towards achieving this

sustainable development. However, the need for monitoring, supervising and


ensuring that all the financial and other investment on education for the

purpose of achieving sustainable development are not diverted for other

purposes.

 The Federal Government should endeavour to earmark 26% of the total budget

for educational development as recommended in the United Nations

Organization.

 Education should be an affair and responsibility of federal, state and local

governments in terms of funding.

 The private sector should also be made to participate in funding by providing

research grants, awarding of scholarships, and endowment of professorial

chairs in universities.

 An enabling law should also be enacted making it mandatory for multinational

companies operating in Nigeria to set aside a minimum of 5% of their gross

profit to finance education and allied projects which must be tax free.

 The government should also have strong political will among the leaders to

ensure continuity of educational policies and doggedness in the fight against

corruption in the country.

 Severe punishment should be meted on financial crimes and other corrupt

practices in the educational sector.


 There should be a steady political environment to ensure continuity and

maturity of educational policies.
