 Participants: 3 interviews, 1 focus group.

Topic: “Freedom”, “Social inequalities”, “Social identity”, “Intergroup relations/conflict”.

- From different settings, experts, representatives, Political policy advisors, Community


leaders.
- Individual choices, institutions, structural barriers, structural facilitators, communities,
social identity, public spheres, social norms, etc.
- Research Questions: “To what extend are we free?”

Participant Observation: WHY?

- Marginalized Experiences (often silenced)


- Norms and assumptions  front stage vs back
- Naturalistic  Immersion
- Rounded picture
- Systems  Cogenerating data
- Everyday practices

Research Questions:

- Meanings
- Sense Making
- Social order
- Informal observations (really happening)

How to do it:

- Participation (Formal and informal interviews)


- Observation

Analysis:

- Field notes
- Patterns that emerge.
- Photos (as long is if ethically)
- Reflexivity (how people see you, why are you choosing these topics? What’s my role in
this?)
