) AKRON POLICE DEPARTMENT Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center 217 South High Street ‘Akron, Ohio 44308-1682 ‘Stephen L. Mylett, Chief of Police October 25, 2022 Dear Akron Community, Yesterday, I received a letter from a local pastor. The letter has since been disseminated to the media, and I feel compelled to respond to you, the Akron community. Tam deeply disappointed and confused by the letter I received. It inaccurately portrays the content and results of conversations I had with members of my two advisory councils leading up to my recent decision to reassign eight officers from paid leave to restrictive duty. Afler reviewing the names attached to the letter, it's worth noting that the vast majority, (nearly 90%) of the individuals who signed their names, were not present during the discussions. Since first joining this police department, I have made it a top priority to engage the Akron community including community leaders. My goal has been to build needed dialogue and enhance trust between members of this community and our police force. pride myself on being a man of integrity. Having my integrity questioned by those I've come to know and trust is beyond hurtful. While I believe it is every citizen’s right to air their grievances with their elected and appointed officials, to do so in a way that includes dishonesty is irresponsible and harmful, The decision to administratively reassign the eight officers was not made in haste, and I still believe it to be the correct decision given the public safety challenges of the entire community. I stand by my decision, and I stand on my commitment to help build a stronger Akron. Sincerely, Soe Myf Chief Steve Mylett wwnw.akroncops.org Fax: (330) 375-2135 Phone: (330) 375-2244 Address all correspondence to the Chief of Police
