PHILGBC RELEASES BERDE — VERSION 4.0.0

Manila, Philippines — 22 June 2021 — The Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC)
launched the latest version of the BERDE Green Building

Rating System, BERDE — Version 4.0.0. BERDE GBRS – Version 4.0.0 introduced further
socio-economic priorities for green building projects, including the contribution of projects
to health and wellbeing, community engagement and economic opportunities. Changes in
this version also considered the learnings from previous BERDE projects, feedback from
industry and updates on laws, regulations, and standards.

“BERDE — Version 4.0.0 has further expanded our outlook when building green.

This version reflects our commitment for sustainable development, where we address
not just the environmental priorities, but we also introduced a stronger focus on the
socio-economic aspects of green building,” says Edgar Sabidong, Chair of the
Philippine Green Building Council Board of Trustees.

The continuous improvement of the system ensures that BERDE aligns with the

latest building and environmental regulations.  The Department of Energy (DOE)’s 2020
Edition of the Guidelines for Energy Conserving Design of Buildings was incorporated in the
development of BERDE — Version 4.0.0 to ensure green buildings align with current energy
regulations and best practices.

Aside from the sustainability priorities for BERDE, the PHILGBC also aimed to improve
user experience when using the tool. Changes in BERDE also include clearer intent for all
credits and improved guidance on how projects should comply with the different
requirements.

BERDE (Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence) is a tool to assess, measure,
monitor, and certify the performance of green building projects, above and beyond existing
national and local building and environmental laws, regulations and mandatory standards.
